The project will be built through a phased- delivery approach, meaning construction will occur leading up to Games, pause for the event, and continue through completion for 2029.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe expansion of the LA Convention Center is crucial to our effort to revitalize the downtown area, create new economic opportunities and send a message to the world that LA is ready to compete and win on the global stage,\u201d Bass said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Councilman Curren Price, who attended the ceremony, suffered a medical emergency as a result of dehydration, according to his office. He appeared to become dizzy as people were speaking at the event, and Mayor Karen Bass \u2014 a former nurse \u2014 helped tend to him.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and placed the councilman in a wheelchair and took him to a waiting ambulance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During today&#8217;s groundbreaking for the expansion of the Los Angeles Convention Center, Council member Curren Price experienced a health-related incident,&#8221; Price spokeswoman Angelina Valencia-Dumarot said in a statement. &#8220;After undergoing initial evaluations, medical experts determined that he was suffering from dehydration.
