Please send us an email at <a href=\"https:\/\/news4sanantonio.com\/news\/local\/news@kabb.com\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/news4sanantonio.com\/news\/local\/news@kabb.com\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">news@kabb.com<\/a> or call 210-442-6397. <\/p>\n<p>&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>The federal government shutdown is resulting in some workers not being paid, while cities like San Antonio may also see delayed federal reimbursements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe short term impact does nothing to us,\u201d said San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones.<\/p>\n<p>The last government shutdown lasted a little longer than 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if we start going past two or three months we will start to see some impacts,\u201d said Mayor Jones.<\/p>\n<p>For the 2026 fiscal year, the city is anticipating a little over $150 million in federal dollars to reimburse funding for programs like Head Start, which provides early childhood education, Metro Health, training programs for police, and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRunways at the airport, police officers at the police department, training dollars from the Department of Homeland Security for the fire department,\u201d said City Manager Erik Walsh.<\/p>\n<p>But in Military City U.S.A., the shutdown also affects active-duty military personnel, who must show up to work without pay. Like other essential employees, they would receive back pay when the shutdown is over. Non-essential civilian military workers could be furloughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we look at some of the DOD cuts already that have happened in our community that are impacting the services to our veterans, this is another impact to our civil servants, which disproportionately I think affects our veterans,\u201d said Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to the San Antonio International Airport, essential staff with the TSA and FAA, including air traffic controllers, are also not being paid. But Jesus Saenz, City of San Antonio Director of Airports say it should not affect safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis needs to get resolved and it will get resolved, but until then they will anxiously continue to do their jobs,\u201d said Saenz. <\/p>\n<p>We reached out to representatives the Bexar County as well and they told us they are watching their federal dollars but should not be affected by the shut down either.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Are you a government employee in San Antonio who may be affected?
