(File photo courtesy San Diego Symphony)<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegosymphony.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Diego Symphony Orchestra<\/a> is concluding its 2025 summer launch weekend with \u201cDolly Parton\u2019s Threads: My Songs in Symphony\u201d on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The Tennessee Mountain Home performance will be conducted by Enrico Lopez-Ya\u00f1ez and the symphony orchestra will be joined by nine Americana musicians, including Dean Berner on banjo and mandolin, Derek Drye on both acoustic and lap steel guitar with Katelyn Drye, Hollie Hammel and Julie Williams providing vocals.<\/p>\n<p>While Parton will not be in San Diego in person, the concert will feature her songs \u201cin an innovative multimedia symphonic experience with Dolly on screen, leading audiences in a visual-musical journey of her songs, her life and her stories,\u201d according to a statement from the organizers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe threads of my life are woven together through my songs,\u201d Parton said. \u201cThat\u2019s why this project, Threads: My Songs In Symphony, is so special to me. It\u2019s all about sharing my music and my musical journey with audiences in a new way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Symphony opened its fifth summer season Friday with conductor and symphony Music Director Rafael Payare leading the orchestra and trumpeter Paul Merkelo through a program featuring Ginastera\u2019s Four Dances from \u201cEstancia,\u201d followed by a trumpet concerto written by lauded trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. Dukas\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Sorcerer\u2019s Apprentice,\u201d bringing the magic made famous by Disney\u2019s \u201cFantasia,\u201d and Debussy\u2019s ode to the sea, \u201cLa mer,\u201d rounded out the Friday\u2019s opening night.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, the symphony featured \u201cMusic of the Knights,\u201d also conducted by Lopez-Ya\u00f1ez.<\/p>\n<p>The event included the works of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Paul McCartney and Elton John \u2014 all of whom were knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II.<\/p>\n<p>Vocalists Chris Blem, Scott Coulter and Blaine Krauss and pianist John Boswell were featurding during the \u201cSir-prising\u201d night of music with works including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Webber\u2019s \u201cMemory\u201d and \u201cDon\u2019t Cry for Me, Argentina;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>John\u2019s \u201cCrocodile Rock,\u201d \u201cCan You Feel the Love Tonight,\u201d \u201cThe Circle of Life\u201d and \u201cYour Song;\u201d and<\/li>\n<li>McCartney\u2019s \u201cYesterday,\u201d \u201cHey Jude\u201d and \u201cMaybe I\u2019m Amazed.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Performances by the orchestra continue on the Fourth of July with \u201cAmerica in Song\u201d and \u201cThe Music of ABBA\u201d on July 5th.
