It\u2019ll be made even sweeter knowing women\u2019s professional basketball is coming to Philadelphia for the first time in more than 25 years.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA whole generation has grown up without seeing the best women\u2019s basketball players take the floor in this city, but that changes right now,\u201d Parker said. \u201cThis is more than just a league for us. This revolutionary professional women\u2019s basketball league is, in essence, reshaping the entire sports landscape.\u201d<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-717917\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/cherelle-parker-cs-100225-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\"  \/>Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said with Unrivaled coming to Philadelphia in January, it will be the first time women\u2019s professional basketball has been in the city since 1998. (Cory Sharber\/WHYY)\n<\/p>\n<p>Since its launch, the league has gained major traction, securing a media rights deal with <a href=\"https:\/\/press.wbd.com\/us\/media-release\/tnt-sports\/tnt-sports-and-unrivaled-reach-multi-year-media-partnership-beginning-january-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TNT Sports<\/a> and reaching a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unrivaled.basketball\/news\/unrivaled-closes-oversubscribed-series-b-investment-round-headlined-by-bessemer-venture-partners-increasing-league-valuation-to-340-million-3w2xqm3rmszj\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> $340 million valuation<\/a>. Investors include NBA stars Stephen Curry and Giannis Antetokounmpo, tennis icon and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billiejeanking.com\/equality\/title-ix\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Title IX trailblazer<\/a> Billie Jean King, and Philly\u2019s own basketball legend Dawn Staley.\n<\/p>\n<p>The league played its inaugural season in Miami, with six teams featuring six players each. Unrivaled president Alex Bazzell said the league is \u201cobviously honored to help kick off professional women\u2019s basketball the right way.\u201d\n  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the first time we are leaving our home in Miami,\u201d Bazzell said. \u201cAnd what we always say is if we\u2019re going to go somewhere, we\u2019re going to go somewhere and do it right.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>In 2026, 48 players will suit up for the league across eight different teams. Notable Philly-based players will include WNBA champion Kahleah Copper and former Villanova standout Maddy Siegrist.\n<\/p>\n<p>Unrivaled\u2019s second season will start Jan. 5, 2026, and will air on TNT, truTV and stream on HBO Max.\n<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnba.com\/playoffs\/2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WNBA Finals<\/a> start Friday between the Phoenix Mercury and Las Vegas Aces in a best-of-seven series for the league\u2019s top crown.
