NEW YORK — It’s do-or-die time for both the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, who are set to face off in a decisive Wild Card series Game 3 Thursday night.<\/p>\n
Jazz Chisholm played a huge part in saving the Yankees’ season as they beat the rival Boston Red Sox 4-3 in Game 2 of their AL Wild Card Series.<\/p>\n
The Bronx Bombers staved off elimination on Wednesday night with 4-3 victory in Game 2.<\/p>\n
The dynamic Chisholm raced all the way home from first base on Austin Wells’ tiebreaking single in the eighth inning and made a couple of critical defensive plays that helped the Yankees stave off elimination.<\/p>\n
“It’s what you expect. He’s a game-changer. He showed his maturity,” New York captain Aaron Judge said. “He showed up at the park today and had the biggest plays for us.”<\/p>\n
Both teams will now turn to rookie starters to help propel them to the next round of the playoffs, where the winner will take on the Toronto Blue Jays.<\/p>\n
Hard-throwing rookie Cam Schlittler (4-3, 2.96 ERA) will start for New York. The right-hander grew up in Boston, where he attended Northeastern University, but has said he always wanted to play for the Yankees.<\/p>\n
Rookie left-hander Connelly Early (1-2, 2.33 ERA) will pitch for the Red Sox in place of injured Lucas Giolito. Early has made four major league starts since his debut on Sept. 9.<\/p>\n
The excitement of a do-or-die Game 3 had Yankees and Red Sox fans talking head of the big showdown.<\/p>\n
“I told him I had a little bit of PTSD because he’s got Schilling on the back of his jersey,” said Yankees fan Jerry Mezzina.<\/p>\n
“Now we got all this young talent on both teams. We’ve got a deciding game. I’m just a little disappointed in the Red Sox that they made us travel here to the Bronx,” said Red Sox fan Henry Marsh.<\/p>\n
