PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 As temperatures climb to extreme levels in the Valley this summer, people should know there are always places they can go to cool off at no cost. <\/p>\n

Maricopa County has several Heat Relief Sites<\/a> across the county. They\u2019re open until September 30 for people who do not have access to cool indoor environments. <\/p>\n

The Salvation Army of Metro Phoenix also has Emergency Heat Relief Stations<\/a> that are open during regular operating hours on any day that the National Weather Service issues an Excessive Heat Warning. <\/p>\n

Most heat relief stations will allow leashed dogs on excessive heat days. <\/p>\n

You can help the Salvation Army\u2019s mission by donating<\/a> to its heat relief network.<\/p>\n

According to officials, there have been 5,700 visits to the county\u2019s extended-hour and overnight heat relief sites since they opened on May 1.<\/p>\n

Last year, more than 600 people died from the heat in Maricopa County<\/a>.<\/p>\n
