Phoenix police officers were involved in a second shooting in just one day, this time near 16th Street and Buckeye Road, spokesperson Sgt. Brian Bower said.<\/p>\n
Police posted<\/a> about the shooting just before 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2.<\/p>\n The person involved was struck by gunfire and taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to Bower.<\/p>\n “No officers or community members were injured,” Bower said.<\/p>\n The Arizona Department of Public Safety major incident division will be taking over the investigation, Bower said.<\/p>\n Earlier in the day around 8 a.m., a man armed with a knife was shot by Phoenix police officers<\/a> near Seventh Street and Sunland Avenue, spokesperson Sgt. Rob Scherer said.<\/p>\n The man was at the hospital in critical condition, spokesperson Sgt. Rob Scherer of the Phoenix Police Department said at a news conference Oct. 2.<\/p>\n The pair of shootings came just a day after police Chief Matt Giordano released a public statement<\/a> addressing recent shootings by officers.<\/p>\n There have been at least 58 police shootings in Arizona so far in 2025, with at least 39 of them fatal. It was also the eighth shooting police shooting since mid-August.<\/p>\n “I am committed to continuing our training in crisis intervention, less lethal options, distance and cover, to hopefully resolve situations like this in a peaceful and safe manner (and) to make sure people get the help they need,” Giordano said. “That is my commitment to you.”<\/p>\n The Republic’s Michelle Cruz and David Ulloa contributed to this story.<\/p>\n
