Helayne Seidman<\/p>\n<p>Gotham\u2019s biggest cheese, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thebestchefpizza.com\/selection\/?view=list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Best Pizza Awards<\/a>, is the critically-acclaimed <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/06\/25\/experts-agree-nyc-still-the-pizza-capital-of-the-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Una Pizza Napoletana<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Mangieri\u2019s popular restaurant as been a regular presence on the generally well-regarded list, but this year, it moved up 11 places, beating out other sacred New York spots and claiming the real victory \u2014\u00a0best pizza in the U.S. (Take that, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/04\/30\/new-jersey-beats-out-new-york-for-best-pizza-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Jersey<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/26\/lifestyle\/one-of-americas-best-pizzerias-is-turning-100-sorry-nyc-its-in-connecticut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Haven<\/a>.) <\/p>\n<p>Una Pizza\u2019s classic Margherita pizza is among the most popular pies the restaurant offers. Helayne Seidman<\/p>\n<p>Mangieri brought his first pie to the city in 2004, and has spent the past twenty-odd years perfecting his recipes in various locations both in and out of the city.<\/p>\n<p>This award-winning spot keeps it simple with classic flavor combinations like Margherita, Bianca and Marinara pies \u2014 no hot honey slices or ranch-related offerings, as Mangieri joked in an April Fool\u2019s Instagram post earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>When it opened, Una Pizza Napoletana was a staple spot in the East Village. After a pandemic-era detour to New Jersey, the restaurant continues to draw lengthy lines and rave reviews in its current home on the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/03\/entertainment\/lower-east-side-holds-onto-rebel-edge-50-years-after-punk-was-born-but-cbgbs-now-just-a-memory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lower East Side<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mangieri\u2019s family originates from Salerno, south of Naples. Helayne Seidman<\/p>\n<p>Despite the restaurant\u2019s success, the Garden State native refuses to franchise, sell or even delegate dough-making responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one makes the dough in the restaurant, 25 years later, except for me,\u201d Mangieri <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/06\/25\/experts-agree-nyc-still-the-pizza-capital-of-the-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously told The Post<\/a>.\u201cEvery single pizza that people eat, I still make the dough in the morning myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other New York addresses making the cut included Lucali, Stretch Pizza, Don Antonio and Mama\u2019s Too. <\/p>\n<p>Another <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/12\/10\/us-news\/nyc-restaurants-using-school-bus-trolley-car-to-get-around-rule-against-outdoor-dining\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trendy local fave, L\u2019industrie<\/a>, was handed a special 2025 Street Pizza Award \u2014 in addition to its number 34 ranking on the main list.<\/p>\n<p>One hot spot, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/16\/lifestyle\/dave-portnoy-just-gave-this-buzzy-new-nyc-pizza-spot-a-9-2-rating-and-now-its-selling-out-like-crazy-heres-what-real-new-yorkers-think\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ceres, a new favorite of Barstool\u2019s Dave Portnoy<\/a>, didn\u2019t make the grade this year.<\/p>\n<p>In order to keep the competition fair, The Best Pizza, an offshoot of gastronomic organization The Best Chef, reportedly employs a strict voting and judging process.<\/p>\n<p>The body of voters, selected by the organization, is made up of 150 industry professionals, including food critics and journalists, and 362 pizza chefs \u2014 who are strictly forbidden from voting for colleagues or themselves \u2014 from 60 different countries.<\/p>\n<p>I Masanielli, the list\u2019s number one ranking, is another familiar featured spot.  Instagram\/@imasanielli<\/p>\n<p>In addition, each vote is verified by the organization and held confidential by the voter themselves as well as the board.  <\/p>\n<p>While voters of The Best Pizza\u2019s 2025 ranking clearly had love for Una Pizza, it\u2019s far from the first time the pizzeria has reigned supreme. <\/p>\n<p>In 2024, a competing list with its own supposedly strenuous nomination guidelines, 50 Top Pizza, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/13\/lifestyle\/nyc-again-beats-italy-for-worlds-best-pizza-at-this-location\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ranked NYC institution Una Pizza Napoletana number one in the world<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 10 best pizzerias in the world, according to The Best Pizza Awards<\/p>\n<p>The inventive Pepe in Grani near Caserta, Italy, took the number two spot on the list.
