{"id":275744,"date":"2025-10-03T23:28:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T23:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/275744\/"},"modified":"2025-10-03T23:28:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T23:28:16","slug":"brahmas-call-it-quits-in-san-antonio-as-ufl-reorganizes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/275744\/","title":{"rendered":"Brahmas call it quits in San Antonio as UFL reorganizes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United Football League is leaving San Antonio after <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/san-antonio-brahmas-xfl-debut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">three years in the Alamodome<\/a>, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/uflbrahmas\/status\/1974180485703041325?s=46&amp;t=7QIXs57il4KbUxBh2lnqHQ\">statement posted on social media<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Alamodome and city officials are hopeful they can bring spring football and more events back to the venue in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The United Football League is looking for smaller venues after conducting a review of markets and venues. The <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/showboatsufl\/status\/1974180400776827292?s=46&amp;t=7QIXs57il4KbUxBh2lnqHQ\">Memphis Showboats<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/_panthersufl\/status\/1974180309500326349?s=46&amp;t=7QIXs57il4KbUxBh2lnqHQ\">Michigan Panthers<\/a> also announced their respective shutdowns in nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/_panthersufl\/status\/1974180309500326349?s=46&amp;t=7QIXs57il4KbUxBh2lnqHQ\">identical<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/showboatsufl\/status\/1974180400776827292?s=46&amp;t=7QIXs57il4KbUxBh2lnqHQ\">statements<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, due to stadium constraints, the available venues do not align with our new vision of focusing on smaller, more intimate settings that elevate the fan experience,\u201d read the Brahmas\u2019 statement. \u201cWe are deeply grateful for the incredible support of our devoted Brahmas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UFL officials said as they look ahead to potential expansion in 2028, if the right venue becomes available in San Antonio, they \u201clook forward to bringing the Brahmas back home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brahmas season ticket holders will be refunded within 7-10 days business days.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>City officials said they understand the decision and want to bring spring football back to the Alamodome in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor three years, the Alamodome has enjoyed its association with the XFL and UFL football leagues,\u201d said Richard Oliver, a city spokesperson, in an email. \u201cWe\u2019re disappointed at the decision to discontinue the Brahamas franchise, but understand the reasoning behind placing the league\u2019s games in smaller, more cost-effective venues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"587\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_5068-copy.jpg\" alt=\"The Brahma Mammas (center), a woman-run fan group, and other fans attend a party last week for the coming debut of the San Antonio Brahmas, the city's new XFL professional football team.\" class=\"wp-image-5316768\"  \/>Members of the Brahma Mammas, a women\u2019s fan group, and other fans attend a party in 2023 for the coming debut of the San Antonio Brahmas. He shared attendance numbers for the Brahmas time in the Alamodome.<\/p>\n<p>Oliver said the team brought in an average of 14,983 fans in 2023, before that decreased to averages of 11,888 fans in 2024 and 11,105 fans per game in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe remain hopeful that quality spring football will return to the Alamodome in the future,\u201d said Richard Oliver, a city spokesperson, in an email statement. \u201cMoving forward, we will use this as an opportunity to bring more major concerts and sporting events to the Alamodome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The San Antonio Brahmas set up shop in the Alamodome in 2023 as part of the XFL, a spring football league. In 2024, the Brahmas played in the new UFL after the XFL merged with the United States Football League.
