Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs was sentenced to only about four years in prison Friday \u2014 a paltry term compared to the more than a decade prosecutors sought after a blockbuster, stomach-churning trial exposed the mogul\u2019s depraved secrets.<\/p>\n
The disgraced hip-hop icon, 55, could be a free man in just three years as he has already spent 14 months behind bars while the sex-crimes case wound through Manhattan federal court.<\/p>\n
Judge Arun Subramanian, at the end of an emotional, nearly six-hour hearing, admonished Combs for using his vast power to abuse women \u2014\u00a0 but ultimately opted to give the Bad Boy Records founder a chance to reclaim his life.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou abused the power and control that you had over the lives of women you professed to love dearly,\u201d Subramanian told Combs before heading down the sentence of 50 months, with five years supervised release and a $500,000 fine.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cYou abused them physically, emotionally, and psychologically,\u201d he said. \u201cWhy did it happen so long? Because you had the power and the resources to keep it going, and because you weren\u2019t caught.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cA meaningful sentence is needed to protect the public from further crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Combs\u2019 punishment \u2014 on a prostitution conviction related to his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and an influencer known as \u201cJane\u201d\u2013 was more lenient than the roughly six-to-seven-year term recommended under federal guidelines.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also a far cry from the 14-month, time-served sentence his high-powered defense team argued his prostitution convictions warranted.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors, meanwhile, contended the music mogul deserved a prison-term of 11 years,\u00a0arguing the \u201cunrepentant\u201d Combs had left his victims living in fear.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The highly anticipated sentencing unfolded in the same courtroom where jurors\u00a0found Combs guilty July 2 o<\/a>n two counts of transporting people for the purposes of prostitution.<\/p>\n But the jury acquitted Combs of the top counts of sex trafficking and racketeering \u2014 charges that could have sent him to prison for life.\u00a0<\/p>\n A judge ordered that Diddy remain locked up in a hellish federal prison until his sentencing after his conviction.<\/p>\n The shocking verdict came after jurors heard two months of harrowing testimony delving into Combs\u2019 twisted, violent and baby oil-drenched private life involving degrading sex sessions he dubbed \u201cfreak-offs.\u201d<\/p>\n Before he learned his fate, Combs, clad in a wrinkled oatmeal sweater and donning black reading glasses, stood up and read a lengthy statement, apologizing to Ventura and \u201cJane,\u201d but otherwise spent most of his 12-minute address focused on himself.<\/p>\n He begged the judge for \u201canother chance\u201d and vowed that he was a changed man.<\/p>\n Diddy, seen here arriving at the Met Gala in 2018, was indicted and arrested in September 2024 on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and prostitution. I\u2019ve been trying my best. I got lost in excess, I got lost in my ego.\u201d<\/p>\n Combs also thanked and credited six of his children who emotionally pleaded for leniency for their dad during the hearing, while his lawyers played a\u00a0cringey 11-minute video<\/a>\u00a0depicting the admitted abuser as a hero to kids.<\/p>\n He turned to his family and put his left hand up to his eyes after hearing the sentence and then stoically walked out a side door, en route to his cell inside the troubled Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. His lawyers said they\u2019ll soon press the judge about where the fallen rap star should serve his stint.<\/p>\n The prison sentence was welcomed by Ventura\u2019s lawyers Douglas Wigdor and Meredith Firetog.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile nothing can undo the trauma caused by Combs, the sentence imposed today recognizes the impact of the serious offenses he committed,\u201d the lawyers said in a statement. \u201cWe are confident that with the support of her family and friends, Ms. Ventura will continue healing knowing that her bravery and fortitude have been an inspiration to so many.\u201d<\/p>\n Ventura didn\u2019t speak at the sentencing, but penned a heart-rending victim impact statement arguing that Combs \u2013 who mercilessly beat and forced her to endure his sick perversions for years \u2013 is not a changed man.<\/p>\n Diddy\u2019s mom Janice Combs waves as she arrives at court for her son\u2019s sentencing on Friday. REUTERS<\/p>\n \u201cThis outcome reflects the persistence of half-measures, acknowledging harm but stopping short of full accountability, highlighting how far the system still has to go to deliver real justice.\u201d<\/p>\n Feminist attorney Gloria Allred said outside the courthouse that many of Combs\u2019 alleged victims were worried he\u2019d walk free.<\/p>\n \u201cThey were very much afraid that he would retaliate against them, and so I think that they will be happy that he will be at least in prison for a number of years,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n The victim known as \u201cJane\u201d also chose not to attend the sentencing, but Subramanian recounted her searing trial testimony in which she said Combs chillingly asked her \u201cIs this coercion?\u201d when forced her to perform in a \u201cfreak-off\u201d after brutally beating her for hours.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause of the testimony of the women in this courtroom, these horrible acts were made public,\u201d the judge told Combs. \u201cAnd it\u2019s not something, Mr. Combs, that you will ever be able to wash away. You will forever be associated with them.\u201d<\/p>\n The only victim set to speak during the sentencing \u2013 Combs\u2019 former live-in assistant \u201cMia,\u201d who accused him of rape \u2013 backed out at the last minute after she was scared off by a \u201cbullying\u201d letter from the rappers lawyers, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n Lawyers for \u201cJane\u201d and \u201cMia\u201d didn\u2019t return requests for comment.<\/p>\n Outside the Lower Manhattan courthouse, a throng of social media influencers appeared to outnumber Combs\u2019 supporters, many of whom had set up tents to sleep overnight to catch a glimpse of the \u201cCan\u2019t Hold Me Down\u201d rapper.<\/p>\n The carnival-esque crowd also included Sharay Hayes, an exotic dancer nicknamed \u201cThe Punisher\u201d who testified in May \u2013 and spared no sexually graphic detail \u2013 about Combs\u2019 sordid \u201cfreak-offs.\u201d<\/p>\n ad Boy Records label into an\u00a0empire worth nearly $1 billion<\/a>, starred in movies and hosted lavish, celebrity-packed \u201cwhite parties\u201d in luxurious locales such as the Hamptons.<\/p>\n Video surveillance grabs show Cassie Ventura trying to sneak out of the hotel, but Diddy catching up to her in a towel and dragging her down the hallway. Getty Images for Roc Nation<\/p>\n After dramatic raids on Combs\u2019 mansions in Miami and Beverly Hills, he was eventually indicted and arrested in September 2024 on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and prostitution.<\/p>\n The trial began in May, with a gray-haired, grandpa sweater-wearing Combs \u2014 who had been a snazzy fashion plate before his downfall \u2014 being carted daily from Brooklyn\u2019s notorious MDC.<\/p>\n Combs did not testify during the headline-grabbing trial, which drew scores of observers to the courtroom, including the mogul\u2019s mother, children, and supporters such as\u00a0fellow disgraced rapper Kanye West<\/a>.<\/p>\n Prosecutors called 34 witnesses as they painted Combs as the kingpin of a criminal crew that plotted a slew of crimes over two decades, including\u00a0setting Kid Cudi\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>Porsche on fire.<\/p>\n Federal agents who raided Diddy\u2019s Miami Beach home found numerous containers of lube.
