PHOENIX \u2014 The Phoenix Police Department is urging residents to share their thoughts on its non-lethal weapon policies.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, authorities issued a request for public input \u2014 the same day two separate shootings involving city officers occurred.<\/p>\n

Police are working to develop new policies governing the use and procedures for spit socks, chemical irritants, Tasers, impact weapons, and less-lethal launchers.<\/p>\n

A copy of the proposed policies<\/a> is available online. At the bottom of each draft, there\u2019s a button labeled \u201cClick here to provide feedback.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Community members can submit feedback through Oct. 31.<\/p>\n

Phoenix PD wants public input on non-lethal weapon policies<\/p>\n

On the same day Phoenix police put out a request for public comment, officers with the city were involved in two separate shootings with suspects.<\/p>\n

The first Thursday shooting took place around 8 a.m. near Seventh Street and Sunland Avenue<\/a>, north of Southern Avenue. It involved a man with a knife who allegedly ran at police officers<\/a> with the weapon raised.<\/p>\n

Police deployed both lethal and non-lethal weapons. Victor Conrad Altamirano, 58, later died while receiving treatment.<\/p>\n

Phoenix officers were involved in\u00a0yet another shooting<\/a>, this one near 16th Street and Buckeye Road, around 7 p.m. Thursday. The suspect, whose name was not released, was hospitalized.<\/p>\n
