(WAFB) &#8211; Officials are warning about an increase in scams involving fraudulent job offers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/scamtracker\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/scamtracker\">Better Business Bureau (BBB) of South Central Louisiana<\/a>, while employment scams are a persistent issue, there has been a noticeable increase in reported cases in recent weeks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The BBB described the scam as text messages and emails impersonating well-known, trusted companies that promise quick, flexible, and high-paying work. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><b>The BBB released the following tips to help job seekers avoid this scam:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Red Flags to Watch For<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"list | article-list\">\n<li>You receive an unsolicited job offer via text or messaging apps<\/li>\n<li>The company offers unrealistic pay or benefits for simple online tasks<\/li>\n<li>They ask you to contact them on WhatsApp or Telegram<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re asked to pay money upfront or provide banking information (supposedly to withdraw future earnings)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Protect Yourself<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"list | article-list\">\n<li>Research the company independently \u2014 use their official website only<\/li>\n<li>Never pay money to get hired or access tasks<\/li>\n<li>Avoid communicating exclusively via text, WhatsApp, or Telegram<\/li>\n<li>If something feels rushed, secretive, or \u201ctoo good to be true,\u201d walk away <\/li>\n<li>Report scam messages to BBB ScamTracker at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/scamtracker\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/scamtracker\" target=\"_blank\">bbb.org\/scamtracker<\/a> as well as the FTC at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reportfraud.ftc.gov\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.reportfraud.ftc.gov\" target=\"_blank\">reportfraud.ftc.gov<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wafb.com\/2025\/06\/30\/beware-employment-scams-targeting-job-seekers\/mailto:typo@wafb.com\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wafb.com\/2025\/06\/30\/beware-employment-scams-targeting-job-seekers\/mailto:typo@wafb.com\">Click here<\/a> to report a typo.
