With shelters across Los Angeles operating at overcapacity, LA Animal Services is encouraging residents to give local pets a second chance this October during \u201cAdopt a Shelter Dog Month.\u201d<\/p>\n
Every weekend this month, prospective pet owners can adopt dogs for $51, puppies for $75, cats for $12.50, and kittens for $25. Themed adoption weekends give each weekend its own flair: \u201cAdopt a Shelter Dog\u201d on Oct. 4-5, \u201cTrick or Treat\u201d on Oct. 11-12, \u201cMake a Dog\u2019s Day\u201d on Oct. 18-19, and \u201cHappy Halloween\u201d on Oct. 27-28.<\/p>\n
\u201cOctober being Adopt a Shelter Dog Month is the ideal time to bring home a new furry friend,\u201d said Annette Ramirez, Interim General Manager for LA Animal Services. \u201cOur six Centers across LA City are filled with incredible pets in all shapes and sizes that are ready for their new families.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pets adopted through the program come ready for their new homes: spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adopters also receive a Petco flyer with discounts and a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 in follow-up veterinary care during the first two weeks. Dogs are even eligible for free training classes at the People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills through Paws for Life K9 Rescue.<\/p>\n
