A Queens police officer was promoted to the rank of sergeant Friday, becoming\u00a0the fourth in his blue-blooded family to achieve the honor.<\/a><\/p>\n

Mustafa H. Young\u2019s mom, dad and sister \u2014 all members of the force \u2014 watched on with other family as he and 75 other officers were celebrated during a ceremony at 1 Police Plaza.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to say I\u2019m excited, but I\u2019ve been waiting for a while. Obviously, being a part of a legacy, just trying to keep it all in the family,\u201d Young told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am excited, though, for the next step in my career. I\u2019m following in some good footsteps and am the last of a long line.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In his new role, Young will join his sergeant father at Patrol Borough Queens South, where the younger Young will serve with the NYPD\u2019s Youth Services Division, part of Community Affairs.<\/p>\n

His sister, Jamiyla Hall, and her husband also hold the sergeant rank, making Young the fourth in his family to hold the title.<\/p>\n

The promotion itself, which came by way of passing the difficult sergeant\u2019s test, stands out as one of the proudest moments of Young\u2019s career so far \u2014 but has yet to surpass the day he first became a member of the force.<\/p>\n

Young wears the same shield number as his mother, retired police officer Harriet Young. Helayne Seidman<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old inherited his mother Harriet\u2019s shield number 25873,<\/a> which she had given up when she retired from her career as an NYPD police officer the year before Young\u2019s began.<\/p>\n

Young\u2019s father, Vernon, also a sergeant, is still going strong with the NYPD and will celebrate his 29th year in the coming months.<\/p>\n

To no surprise, the couple\u2019s three children followed in their heroic footsteps \u2014 and some even went on to marry cops, as well.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Young\u2019s father and sister are also NYPD sergeants, while his other sister is a captain in the corrections department. Helayne Seidman<\/p>\n

\u201cJust the structure behind it, plenty of discipline,\u00a0just being well-grounded as a person fighting for a good cause,\u201d Young said about what drew him to a career in law enforcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just took the test and decided to keep going with it. Football played a major part in it, because I\u2019ve been playing for the [NYPD football] team for 11 years also. That just kind of kept me grounded, just being around a lot of people on the job.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The honor is nothing short of exhilarating for Young\u2019s father.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, of course, I\u2019m very proud. I\u2019m very proud to see him continuing the family legacy,\u201d Vernon Young, 62, said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s something that we all grew into.\u201d<\/p>\n

Young\u2019s promotion comes just four months after his sister was also promoted to sergeant.<\/p>\n

Young\u2019s other sister, Taqiyya Young, a Corrections Captain in the DOC \u2014 the only one in the immediate family to not be an NYPD officer \u2014 described her brother\u2019s promotion as an \u201cawesome thing.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exciting. We\u2019re all bosses now.
