HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 Over the past week, we\u2019ve seen a small uptick in tropical activity with Tropical Storm Andrea<\/a>, <\/b>which formed last Tuesday, and Tropical Storm Barry<\/a>, which formed over the weekend. <\/p>\n

Tracking the Tropics<\/b><\/p>\n

Now, <\/b>over the next seven days, another area in the Eastern Gulf has a slight chance of development.<\/p>\n

20% chance of frontal boundary becoming a depression or stormWhat we are watching<\/b><\/p>\n

A frontal boundary off the coast of the Florida panhandle is expected to stall out over the next few days. <\/p>\n

2025 Atlantic hurricane season names<\/a><\/p>\n

As it continues to stall, a low-pressure system may slowly begin to form and develop subtropical to tropical characteristics over the next week. If the system develops, it would become Tropical Storm Chantal.<\/p>\n

Disorganized showers and thunderstorms associated with a frontal boundaryHow will this affect Houston?<\/b><\/p>\n

In short, this system isn\u2019t expected to affect Houston. <\/p>\n

As it continues to drift to the east, parts of the southeast could expect to see heavy rain with totals ranging 1-4 inches, with isolated totals up to 6 inches in spots. <\/p>\n

We will continue to watch this system over the next few days and give you updates.<\/p>\n

As we enter July, Saharan dust is expected to increase across the Atlantic and Gulf, inhibiting the formation of storms. <\/p>\n

However, though we are entering the \u201cquiet\u201d period of hurricane season, we have seen storms form during this time, including Hurricane Beryl <\/a>last year, which left millions without power. <\/a><\/p>\n

We will continue to watch the tropics and provide updates throughout the season.<\/p>\n

Chantal would be the next on the list<\/p>\n
