New staff. New season. New conference. Quite frankly, a new level. A new standard we’re going to try to achieve here.

“My hope, when I look out here and what we all see and what we all feel, is that when the opponents come to the Valley this upcoming season, they get a little taste of this,” Gandy said.

The night was an ideal introduction for Havocs and the teams. The GCU men have 11 new players, while the Lopes women brought in 14 new players.

Drew told the crowd about how he arrived at GCU in 2020 when GCU President Brian Mueller and Vice President of Athletics Jamie Boggs laid out a vision to make the university and its athletic program nationally known.

“That vision is coming true, and a big reason is because of everyone in the building now and everybody that’s been here in the past to help us,” Drew said.

“We’ve got a big mountain to climb this year. We’ve got South Mountain here. We’ve got Camelback Mountain. There’s a mountain in the west called the Mountain West Conference. People on that mountain think that we’re not going to be at the top. So when everyone from that mountain that comes in this building, we want them to leave with no doubt who’s going to be on top of that mountain this year and for years to come. That’s going to be GCU and the Havocs.”

When the clock struck midnight, the character of Grand Canyon basketball was revealed in the madness of the…

[44
1339,1317,1337,1338,62,67,132,68
0":"post-276866","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-ncaa-basketball","8":"tag-basketball","9":"tag-ncaa","10":"tag-ncaa-basketball","11":"tag-ncaabasketball","12":"tag-sports","13":"tag-united-states","14":"tag-unitedstates","15":"tag-us
["GET
