SAN DIEGO \u2014 Mountain West play began for two football teams in their last season in the league.<\/p>\n
San Diego State crushed Colorado State<\/a> as Jayden Denegal had an excellent game. So is San Diego State. The Rams<\/a> generally have not picked up wins against teams who will be in that new Pac-12 during Jay Norvell’s era.<\/p>\n With this defeat, CSU will fall to 3-9 in Jay Norvell’s tenure against teams who will be with the Rams in the 2026 Pac-12 (including 0-2 this season)<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle (@Kevin_Lytle) October 4, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n Byron Cardwell with 20-yard TD run. Jackson Brousseau runs for 3 yards on a 4th and 2 to keep things alive. Then on the next play Brousseau scrambles and scores from 4 yards out.<\/p>\n Rams go for two and Brousseau finds Rocky Beers in the back of the end zone for the conversion.<\/p>\n San Diego State lead is now 38-18 with 12:35 to go.<\/strong><\/p>\n That’s a 14-play, 75-yard drive in 6:45.<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n This one is over, but 15 minutes to go.<\/p>\n San Diego State leads 38-10 after three quarters.<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n Lucky Sutton runs it in from 1 yard out for another San Diego State touchdown.<\/p>\n It capped a 12-play, 75-yard drive that ate 6:11 off the clock. San Diego State basically toying with CSU now.<\/p>\n It’s 38-10 with 4:43 to go in the third quarter.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n Rams go 3-and-out on first drive of second half.<\/p>\n A comeback feels nearly impossible in this one.<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n Now that’s a heck of a kick from a college kicker. A personal foul knocks San Diego State back, but no problem for Gabriel Plascencia. The lefty hits a career-long 53-yarder. That’s a school-record 19 consecutive makes for him.<\/p>\n Aztecs go up 31-10 with 11:45 to go in the third quarter.<\/strong><\/p>\n SDSU opened the half with a nine-play, 30-yard drive (after the penalty knocked it back) in 3:09.<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n Some halftime stats:<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n This got ugly on CSU late in the first half. San Diego State leads 28-10 at the break.<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n San Diego State looked content to cautiously end the half. Then CSU jumps offsides and Jayden Denegal uses the free play to throw a 61-yard bomb to Jordan Napier.<\/p>\n Then Lucky Sutton has a 14-yard TD run on the next play. That’s a three-play, 75-yard drive if you’re counting at home.<\/p>\n San Diego State is up 28-10.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n CSU drives inside San Diego State’s 10 but then stalls out.<\/p>\n Rams had a 1st and goal at the 9 and went minus-4 on a run and back-to-back throwaways under pressure.<\/p>\n Isaiah Hankins hits a 30-yard field goal.<\/p>\n San Diego State leads 21-10 with 1:32 until half.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n CSU has two fourth-down conversions on this drive: A pass to Lavon Brown and a run for Jalen Dupree.<\/p>\n Rams have a 1st and 10 at San Diego State’s 19 at the 2-minute timeout.<\/p>\n SDSU leads 21-7 with 2 minutes until half.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n San Diego State converted a 4th and 1 with a tush push just inside CSU territory. Then shortly after Jayden Denegal fires a 42-yard bomb to Jordan Napier for a touchdown.<\/p>\n Denegal now has TD passes of 42 and 45 yards. Aztecs have 239 yards of offense so far.<\/p>\n SDSU leads 21-7 with 7:28 until half.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n Colorado State gets a much-needed response. Rams pull out the flea-flicker and it gets Armani Winfield wide open. Brousseau handed it off to Jalen Dupree, who then pitched it back and Winfield was wide open.<\/p>\n Jackson Brousseau completes the 49-yard touchdown pass. It’s now 14-7 San Diego State with 11:24 until half.<\/strong><\/p>\n Those are the first points San Diego State has allowed at home this season.<\/p>\n That’s the longest pass play of the season for CSU (Dupree’s 31-yard rush earlier in the game was CSU’s longest rush of the season).<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n Aztecs quickly extend the lead early in the second quarter. Christian Washington with a 2-yard TD run.<\/p>\n It’s a 13-play, 64-yard TD drive in 6:53.<\/p>\n San Diego State absolutely dominating here. It’s 14-0 with 12:33 until half.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n End of first quarter: San Diego State 7, Colorado State 0.<\/p>\n SDSU has a 1st and 10 at CSU’s 15 to start the second quarter.<\/p>\n Yardage is 151-48 for the Aztecs.<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n Wondering what those logos are in the San Diego State end zones are? Aztecs go 82 yards in five plays and 1:52.<\/p>\n The TD comes on a 45-yard TD pass from Jayden Denegal to Donovan Brown.<\/p>\n It was a great throw, but Denegal was able to throw without pressure.<\/p>\n San Diego State goes up 7-0 with 5:56 left in first quarter.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n Jalen Dupree has a 31-yard run on CSU’s first play from inside the 1 to get the Rams out of trouble. He has a 20-yarder a couple plays later to get CSU just inside San Diego State territory.<\/p>\n But a couple runs after are stuffed and a dangerous Jackson Brousseau pass is incomplete. Rams punt, SDSU ball at own 18.<\/p>\n It’s 0-0 with 7:48 left in first quarter.<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n CSU’s defense allowed one first on first San Diego State drive, but stopped Aztecs just inside CSU territory.<\/p>\n A great SDSU punt pins the Rams inside their own 1.<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n Well, an awful start on offense for Colorado State. Rams start with a screen to Jordan Ross, who tries to go all the way back across field and is tackled for a 6-yard loss. Next play the snap goes over Jackson Brousseau’s head. He manages to pick it up and throw it away.<\/p>\n Third and long and it’s a short run for Brousseau and Rams punt.<\/p>\n \u2014 Kevin Lytle<\/p>\n San Diego State wins the toss and defers.
