Zohran Mamdani visited Washington D.C. to meet with Democrats after his NYC mayoral primary victory.<\/p>\n

New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani<\/a> wants voters to know he’s in the race against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo<\/a> “for the right reasons.”<\/p>\n

The Democratic socialist and state assemblyman, 33, running to be the next Mayor of New York released an ad Wednesday, Aug. 1 that spoofed ABC’s rosy reality dating “Bachelor” franchise<\/a>. In the ad, Mamdani says a long soliloquy \u2013 as leads often do on the series \u2013 before picking up a rose and raising it up to the camera.<\/p>\n

“You deserve better.\u00a0You deserve to be able to raise your family here.\u00a0To be safe.\u00a0To travel where you need to, free of cost and worry,” Mamdani said. “You deserve someone who works as hard as you do. Who thinks about you \u2014 every second of the day.\u00a0That’s the kind of mayor I promise to be.”<\/p>\n

Then, a flowery question: “New York, will you accept this rose?” According to Mamdani’s campaign, the seven-figure “Rose” ad campaign aired for the first time in New York City during Wednesday night’s episode of “The Golden Bachelor,” the franchise’s series aimed at seniors.<\/p>\n

Season 2 of “The Golden Bachelor”<\/a> features former NFL linebacker<\/a> Mel Owens, 66, who is now looking for love.<\/p>\n

“When we say this is a campaign that meets voters everywhere, we mean it \u2014 even if it\u2019s from their couch watching The Golden Bachelor,” a Mamdani spokesperson said in a press release.<\/p>\n

Cuomo, who fell from grace amid a sexual assault scandal in 2020, launched an independent mayoral bid after\u00a0losing the Democratic primary<\/a>\u00a0to Mamdani earlier this year. Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa is also in the race.<\/p>\n

Centrist Democrat and incumbent New York City Mayor\u00a0Eric Adams<\/a> announced Sept. 28 that he was\u00a0dropping his bid for reelection<\/a>.
