{"id":277620,"date":"2025-10-04T17:16:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-04T17:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/277620\/"},"modified":"2025-10-04T17:16:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-04T17:16:11","slug":"sheriffs-deputies-sue-dallas-county-over-alleged-missing-overtime-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/277620\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheriff\u2019s deputies sue Dallas County over alleged missing overtime pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">A lawsuit filed in federal court Friday alleges  Dallas County has failed to properly compensate thousands of employees within the sheriff\u2019s office for working overtime.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Issues with pay in the sheriff\u2019s office have been previously reported, as miscommunications about how to classify overtime pay resulted in employees losing pay from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/2024\/12\/11\/dallas-county-employees-shorted-overtime-pay-again\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/2024\/12\/11\/dallas-county-employees-shorted-overtime-pay-again\/\">several pay checks last year<\/a>. A rollout of a new software system in 2023 also resulted in hundreds of employees getting paychecks with money missing. The suit also alleges retired and terminated employees were not paid for their accrued hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The suit also alleges that employees have been retaliated against for filing complaints about the missing pay. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The lawsuit asks for damages in the form of payment for the unpaid hours and lost wages, as well as pre- and post-judgment interest and incurred legal fees. The suit also includes a class action allegation, allowing any past, current or future employees who worked overtime and were not properly paid to join the suit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In addition to the county, the lawsuit names each member of the Dallas County Commissioner\u2019s Court as defendants. A spokesperson with the sheriff\u2019s office did not respond to an email requesting comment Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The president of the sheriff\u2019s office labor union, Christopher Dyer, who is a plaintiff in the suit, did not return phone messages seeking comment Saturday.
