{"id":277674,"date":"2025-10-04T17:45:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-04T17:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/277674\/"},"modified":"2025-10-04T17:45:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-04T17:45:15","slug":"josep-maria-bartomeu-issues-statement-after-being-accused-of-embezzlement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/277674\/","title":{"rendered":"Josep Maria Bartomeu issues statement after being accused of embezzlement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has once again found himself in troubled waters, as the <a href=\"https:\/\/barcauniversal.com\/former-barcelona-president-charged-of-embezzlement-by-court-following-laporta-complaint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">16th court of Barcelona has summoned him<\/a> following complaints filed by current president Joan Laporta.<\/p>\n<p>Bartomeu was also accused of mishandling funds and causing <a href=\"https:\/\/barcauniversal.com\/barcelona-prosecutors-office-accuses-former-president-of-causing-e13-million-worth-of-damage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">damages worth \u20ac13 million<\/a> to the club. He has been summoned to court on October 24.<\/p>\n<p>However, the former Barcelona president has issued a rebuttal to each and every complaint filed against him.<\/p>\n<p>Barteomeu\u2019s response to complaint filings<\/p>\n<p>In his note, Bartomeu began by clarifying his position in the Neymar 2 case, stating that he was tried before the regional court in Barcelona and ultimately acquitted, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundodeportivo.com\/futbol\/fc-barcelona\/20250930\/1002542208\/duro-comunicado-bartomeu-citado-declarar-procedimiento.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mundo Deportivo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the Bar\u00e7agate case, he recalled his arrest in March 2021 but underlined that he was released immediately. He added that from the very beginning, he had expressed his willingness to testify voluntarily.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the\u00a0Negreira\u00a0case, Bartomeu emphasised that he complied with judicial proceedings when summoned, providing his statement in March 2023.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/athletic-club-v-fc-barcelona-la-liga-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"Josep Maria Bartomeu, former Barcelona president\" class=\"wp-image-171762\"  \/>Bartomeu has issued several clarifications regarding ongoing cases.
