Traditionally, the Ryder Cup does not offer prize money. McIlroy, who won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.townandcountrymag.com\/leisure\/sporting\/a64523073\/rory-mcilroy-royal-mail-masters-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.townandcountrymag.com\/leisure\/sporting\/a64523073\/rory-mcilroy-royal-mail-masters-win\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"the Masters\" data-node-id=\"5.1\" class=\"body-link css-14frelc emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">the Masters<\/a> this past spring, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/golf\/articles\/c4gxlxg8zmro\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/golf\/articles\/c4gxlxg8zmro\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"said in 2024 that he would\" data-node-id=\"5.3\" class=\"body-link css-14frelc emevuu60\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said in 2024 that he would<\/a> \u201cpersonally would pay for the privilege to play on the Ryder Cup,\u201d putting it in the same class as the Olympics with \u201cthe purity of no money being involved.\u201d McIlroy was also responding to reports that have now come to fruition: Starting with the 2025 Ryder Cup, for the first time ever in the history of the competition, each of the 12 golfers on Team United States <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pga.com\/story\/a-statement-from-the-pga-of-america-on-the-2025-ryder-cup\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.pga.com\/story\/a-statement-from-the-pga-of-america-on-the-2025-ryder-cup\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"will now receive a total of $500,000 for competing\" data-node-id=\"5.5\" class=\"body-link css-14frelc emevuu60\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will now receive a total of $500,000 for competing<\/a>; $300,000 of that money will go to a charity (or charities) of the player\u2019s choosing, while the remaining $200,000 is deemed a stipend. The European players will still not be compensated, nor will they offer a charitable component.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"7\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">The PGA of America specified that no players asked to be compensated. U.S. team captain Keegan Bradley told the AP in December he <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ryder-cup-pay-schauffele-keegan-bradley-usa-e80e434104bbcc40fc93c523fdca9c07\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ryder-cup-pay-schauffele-keegan-bradley-usa-e80e434104bbcc40fc93c523fdca9c07\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"plans to donate the entire sum to charity\" data-node-id=\"7.3\" class=\"body-link css-14frelc emevuu60\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plans to donate the entire sum to charity<\/a>, as does Schauffele. \u201cI just see it as a whole lot of money going to charity and we\u2019re going to take a lot of crap,\u201d Schauffele told the AP, referring to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/golf\/2024\/11\/13\/ryder-cup-2025-team-usa-player-paid-patrick-cantlay\/\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/golf\/2024\/11\/13\/ryder-cup-2025-team-usa-player-paid-patrick-cantlay\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"The Daily Telegraph\" data-node-id=\"7.5\" class=\"body-link css-14frelc emevuu60\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Telegraph<\/a> report in November that Americans would be paid $400,000 with no mention of a split between charity and a stipend.
