{"id":278471,"date":"2025-10-05T01:54:22","date_gmt":"2025-10-05T01:54:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/278471\/"},"modified":"2025-10-05T01:54:22","modified_gmt":"2025-10-05T01:54:22","slug":"social-security-checks-go-paperless-95-5-wsb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/278471\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Security checks go paperless \u2013 95.5 WSB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eIMYHW body-paragraph\">The way most Social Security beneficiaries get paid will be changing starting this week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eIMYHW body-paragraph\">As of Sept. 30, paper Social Security checks will be going away for most beneficiaries, meaning that most payments will be done electronically, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/09\/28\/social-security-paper-checks-deadline\/86369218007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/09\/28\/social-security-paper-checks-deadline\/86369218007\/\">USA Today<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eIMYHW body-paragraph\">Not only will Social Security checks be impacted, but so will tax refunds and other payments from federal programs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2025\/09\/15\/social-security-checks-ending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2025\/09\/15\/social-security-checks-ending\/\">The Washington Post<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eIMYHW body-paragraph\">The change is due to an executive order issued in March. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eIMYHW body-paragraph\">Paper checks and money orders, according to President Donald Trump\u2019s administration, \u201cimpose unnecessary costs; delays; and risks of fraud, lost payments, theft, and inefficiencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eIMYHW body-paragraph\">The Social Security Administration has been contacting recipients who were receiving checks in the mail to change to electronic payments or debit cards before Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eIMYHW body-paragraph\">\u201cElectronic payments offer significant advantages over paper checks, including faster access to funds, increased security, and greater convenience,\u201d Nick Perrine, SSA chief communications officer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/news\/en\/advocates\/2025-09-10.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>. \u201cPayments are deposited directly into a bank account or onto a prepaid debit card, eliminating the need to wait for mail delivery or visit a bank.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eIMYHW body-paragraph\">The change will save money for the federal government, as it costs about 50 cents for a check, but 15 cents for electronic payments, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/social-security-paper-checks-ending-september-30-electronic-payments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/social-security-paper-checks-ending-september-30-electronic-payments\/\">CBS News<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eIMYHW body-paragraph\">More than 5 million people were still receiving checks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2025\/09\/15\/social-security-checks-ending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2025\/09\/15\/social-security-checks-ending\/\">The Washington Post<\/a> reported about two weeks ago.
