Not a pristine coffee-table object, but a street document you can live with,\u201d says I\u00f1\u00e1rritu, who invited contributors as varied as \u201cDune\u201d director Denis Villeneuve, film critic Elvis Mitchell, behind-the-scenes photographer Fernando Llanos and more to pen essays (or, in one case, a script) about what \u201cAmores Perros\u201d meant to them. Alongside their thoughts, there are storyboards, production schedules, receipts, emails, behind-the-scenes photos, handwritten scene breakdowns, call sheets and press clippings. It\u2019s the patchwork of body parts that make up a film\u2019s birth, life and afterlife.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause the film wasn\u2019t planned as branded content, the materials are ordinary\u2014and that makes them special,\u201d I\u00f1\u00e1rritu says. \u201cIt\u2019s dirty laundry and archives that people rarely see. That\u2019s also the spirit of SUE\u00d1O PERRO,\u201d the multisensory exhibition created by I\u00f1\u00e1rritu for Fondazione Prada, using unseen footage culled from \u201cnearly a million feet of leftover film.\u201d This tactility, the textures of photocopies, print-outs and VHS screengrabs, remains a crucial element of I\u00f1\u00e1rritu\u2019s creative process: \u201cWhat you see in the book is what survived.
