As a Black woman breaking ground in the global wine industry, Ingrid\u2019s mission is simple: create world-class wines rooted in heritage, culture, and excellence.<\/p>\n<p>First Pour: The 2022 Red Blend<\/p>\n<p>IBest\u2019s 2022 red blend\u2014a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Petite Syrah, and Malbec\u2014was our first sip of South African terroir. The color was rich and inviting, and the taste delivered exactly what the label promised:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"780\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/29863083016222.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-137493\"  \/><a href=\"https:\/\/shoppeblack.us\/...\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>IBest\u00a0Red\u00a0Blend<\/strong><\/a>. Photo credit: ibestwines.com<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Notes of blackcurrant, cherry, violets, and baking spices<\/li>\n<li>Medium-bodied with a lingering finish<\/li>\n<li>Smooth enough for lunch, flavorful enough for dinner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>LaFree summed it up best: \u201cThis is really good. Medium body, flavorful, not too dry. I could see this being on our menu.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pairings? Think charcuterie boards, salads with cranberries and bacon, or even Square A\u2019s signature avocado toast. For us, this red blend quickly earned a <strong>thumbs up<\/strong>\u2014sophisticated but approachable.<\/p>\n<p>Second Pour: The White Blend<\/p>\n<p>The white blend featured <strong>Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc<\/strong>, offering hints of lemon zest, apricot, honeysuckle, and cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche. For LaFree, it was the winner: crisp, refreshing, and tart in just the right way.<\/p>\n<p>For me? A different story. The slight sweetness leaned closer to a dessert wine than my usual preference. Still, it\u2019s a versatile pour that could win over drinkers transitioning from sweeter wines into drier varietals. As a restauranter, LaFree suggested pairing it with <strong>smoked salmon, creamy pasta, or even salmon fries<\/strong>, and we could easily imagine this bottle flowing during a patio happy hour.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis is really good. I could see this being on our menu.\u201d \u2013 LaFree Ryan<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Branding &amp; Accessibility<\/p>\n<p>Beyond taste, the <strong>branding is clean, bold, and easy to spot on the shelf<\/strong>\u2014something I appreciated as a consumer. The question of distribution came up, too. While it\u2019s still making its way into U.S. outlets, the hope is that IBest Wines will soon be available at spots like Total Wine or through local distributors so more Dallas wine lovers can enjoy it.<\/p>\n<p>Why It Matters<\/p>\n<p>Ingrid Best\u2019s entry into South African winemaking isn\u2019t just about taste\u2014it\u2019s about impact. At a time when Black-owned businesses face increasing challenges and shrinking corporate support, her presence in an industry historically dominated by European traditions is a bold act of ownership and representation.<\/p>\n<p>We couldn\u2019t help but think of the entire mission of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasweekly.com\/2025\/08\/best-of-black-dallas-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Best of Black Dallas Awards<\/a> and how those are the same pillars the campaign stands on. <\/p>\n<p>As LaFree reminded us: \u201cAlthough we don\u2019t go into business for accolades, recognition matters. To be celebrated for uplifting the community matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Final Verdict<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Red Blend<\/strong>: Bold, balanced, and Dallas-approved. Perfect for everyday sipping or pairing with rich foods.<\/li>\n<li><strong>White Blend<\/strong>: Crisp, fruit-forward, and patio-ready\u2014ideal for those who like a lighter, zestier glass.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Together, these wines mark a strong start for IBest.
