{"id":27864,"date":"2025-06-30T19:10:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T19:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/27864\/"},"modified":"2025-06-30T19:10:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T19:10:15","slug":"uefa-to-strip-aston-villas-psr-profits-from-sale-of-womens-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/27864\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;UEFA to strip Aston Villa&#8217;s PSR profits from sale of women&#8217;s team&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Emery-Ceferin-Sawiris-1140x641.jpg\" class=\"attachment-single-feature size-single-feature wp-post-image\" alt=\"Unai Emery Nassef Sawiris Aleksander Ceferin, Aston Villa UEFA\" layout=\"fill\"  style=\"object-position: 50% 50%\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(Credit: Imago \/ Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/6519ebb05c8f223864168d45364fb6af\" width=\"64\" height=\"64\" alt=\"Ben Palmer\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>   <\/p>\n<p> Mon 30 June 2025 18:12, UK <\/p>\n<p><strong>Aston Villa look set to avoid a sanction from the Premier League with the sale of their women\u2019s team but issues with UEFA remain a possibility.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Villains failed to qualify for the Champions League on the final day of the season thanks to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footballinsider247.com\/matty-cash-abysmal-amadou-onana-solid-aston-villa-ratings-in-loss-at-man-united\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2-0 loss to Man United<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Without the revenue boost from competing in Europe\u2019s premier club competition and having made losses of \u00a3205.8million [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6261284\/2025\/04\/08\/aston-villa-accounts-explained-psr-transfers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Athletic<\/a>] between 2022 and 2024, the club seemed in real danger of failing the Premier League\u2019s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footballinsider247.com\/chelsea-to-announce-big-sale-within-days-stefan-borson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chelsea created a blueprint for avoiding PSR sanctions by selling their women\u2019s team<\/a> in April for \u00a3198.7m [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/articles\/cdd2egjrp31o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BBC Sport<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footballinsider247.com\/tag\/premier-league\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier League<\/a> have attempted to close that loophole twice, including at the latest general meeting between clubs in June [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/sport\/football\/article\/premier-league-fails-to-close-chelsea-psr-loophole-0l2hx7cn6#:~:text=A%20proposal%20to%20close%20the,after%20requests%20from%20some%20clubs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Times<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Following in the footsteps of their domestic rivals, Villa have now agreed to sell their women\u2019s team to V Sports, according to David Ornstein and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/sport\/football\/article\/premier-league-fails-to-close-chelsea-psr-loophole-0l2hx7cn6#:~:text=A%20proposal%20to%20close%20the,after%20requests%20from%20some%20clubs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Athletic<\/a>, but whilst a sale to the company that own\u2019s the Villains will be crucial to avoiding a Premier League sanction, UEFA will strip the profits from the deal.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Todd-Boehly-Chelsea-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Chelsea, Todd Boehly\" class=\"wp-image-576382\" \/>Chelsea sold their women\u2019s team earlier in the year to help avoid a PSR sanction. (Credit: Getty Images) <\/p>\n<p>MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES<\/p>\n<p>  <strong>Aston Villa still facing sanction from UEFA despite women\u2019s team sale<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to The Athletic\u2019s football finance writer Chris Weatherspoon, UEFA will not allow the profits from the sale of the women\u2019s team to be counted against the club\u2019s European PSR calculation, as \u201cthe governing body refuses to allow clubs to record profits on intra-group deals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Villa have been in communication with the European governing body over a \u201cprevious purported breach\u201d, but UEFA have historically leant towards fining clubs, as opposed to dishing out \u201cthe more damaging sporting punishments meted out by the Premier League in recent seasons\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/football\/2025\/06\/30\/aston-villa-close-55m-womens-team-deal-avoid-psr-breach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Telegraph<\/a> have also reported that Villa have \u201ccommitted to bringing down their squad cost ratio\u201d by 10 per cent this summer, and a further 10 per cent next summer in the hopes that will be enough to avoid \u201cheavy sanctions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Aston-Villa-2-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Aston Villa manager Unai Emery\" class=\"wp-image-656683\" \/>Aston Villa are unlikely to need to sell any first-team players for PSR reasons this summer.
