Anders Dreyer scored twice and San Diego FC cleared two impressive milestones with Saturday’s 4-2 road win against Houston.<\/p>\n
The victory is the first year club’s 18th of the season, breaking St. Louis’ Major League Soccer expansion record set in 2023. SDFC reached 60 points, putting them beyond LAFC – who set the previous high of 57 in 2018.<\/p>\n
Mikey Varas’ team is once again alone atop the Western Conference standings, but Vancouver has a chance to match their 60 points with a win Sunday against San Jose. Minnesota currently sits second with 58 points. SDFC and Minnesota have one match remaining this season, while Vancouver will have two more after Sunday.<\/p>\n
The Dynamo led 1-0 after the first half. Dreyer, an MVP candidate, got the visitors level on a 53rd minute penalty kick.<\/p>\n
Mayhem ensued late in regulation. Luca de la Torre gave San Diego FC a brief advantage in the 85th minute. Just two minutes later a sloppy giveaway by the SDFC back line resulted in a Sergio Santos equalizer.<\/p>\n
SDFC pulled back ahead in the 89th minute. Dreyer took a pass in the box, gave it up to Amahl Pellegrino, who patiently made a return pass to Dreyer for the go-ahead goal.<\/p>\n
Pellegrino made it 4-2 in the game’s final moments. He finished with a goal, two assists and drew the penalty that led to Dreyer’s PK.<\/p>\n
Dreyer now has 17 goals and 35 goal contributions in his first MLS season.<\/p>\n
SDFC held possession for 65.6 percent of the match. They also had a 7-1 advantage on corners, but trailed in shot attempts 17-15 and held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.<\/p>\n
The expansion side has gone nine straight road matches without a loss, and has 11 wins away from Snapdragon. That ties Montreal in 2022 and Inter Miami in 2024 for the single season league high.<\/p>\n
