{"id":279150,"date":"2025-10-05T08:57:27","date_gmt":"2025-10-05T08:57:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/279150\/"},"modified":"2025-10-05T08:57:27","modified_gmt":"2025-10-05T08:57:27","slug":"nyc-council-candidate-phil-wong-moves-campaign-hq-to-u-haul-truck-after-losing-lease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/279150\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC council candidate Phil Wong moves campaign HQ to U-haul truck after losing lease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s the road to City Haul.<\/p>\n<p>A Democratic candidate for City Council in Queens has literally taken his campaign on the road \u2014 moving it into a U-Haul truck after the lease expired on his Maspeth office.<\/p>\n<p>Phil Wong, the soon-to-be-former budget director to term-limited Councilman Bob Holden (D-Maspeth), had to pack up the contents of his 69th Street office Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI should be able to secure a space [soon], but I will need time to turn on the WiFi, Con Ed, etc.,\u201d Wong vowed to The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Phil Wong was given just days to pack up his Maspeth office. Phil Wong 2025\/Facebook<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe landlord ended the lease. I got a one-line email last Friday telling me to vacate by the morning of October 1,\u201d he said. But Wong acknowledged was on a month-to-month lease for the $2,700-per-month space.<\/p>\n<p>Wong sent out an email blast Monday night, saying he\u2019d been \u201cevicted,\u201d and asking supporters for additional campaign donations to help secure a new office.<\/p>\n<p>Christina Cotoia, a rep for the landlord, told The Post the pol had plenty of notice, and was not \u201cabruptly evicted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is trying to capitalize on lies and boost his campaign,\u201d said Cotoia, adding the month-to-month lease Wong signed in May ended in August. \u201cPeople are now threatening the landlord and the building, and it\u2019s disgusting and terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wong has been sharing photos of him working at his mobile campaign office on social media. Leonardo Munoz<\/p>\n<p>The Post was provided with a copy of Wong\u2019s lease, and found it does indicate he would have to move out if a permanent tenant were to come along \u2014 as one did last month. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was paying far below market value, but the agreement was, he is a temporary tenant and if the landlord needed to rent the space to a permanent tenant, he had to leave,\u201d Cotoia said. \u201cThis man is running for City Council and he\u2019s spreading lies and slandering his landlord\u2019s character.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wong was planning to move into a new office \u2014 for $5,000 a month \u2014 as of Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Holden decided not to endorse any of the candidates seeking his term-limited seat, as Alicia Vaichunas, the Republican running against Wong, has served as his longtime deputy chief of staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It\u2019s the road to City Haul.
