New York City Councilwoman Alexa Aviles has emerged as the latest member of Gotham\u2019s socialist millionaire\u2019s club<\/a>, a fact she\u2019s worked to keep on the down low.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Socialist of America<\/a> member \u2014 and key ally of mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani<\/a> who\u2019s routinely been spotted on the campaign trail for him \u2014 declared $1.1 million to $1.8 million in assets in her latest annual disclosure.<\/p>\n

The lefty lawmaker and her hubby apparently have no qualms about accumulating private property \u2014 they own a pair of Florida homes \u2013 on top of their main Greenwood Heights pad valued at $590,000 in Brooklyn, according to her 2024 filing with NYC\u2019s Conflicts of Interest Board.<\/p>\n

Aviles, 52, and Frankie Correa bought their first Florida condo in 2012 in a foreclosure sale for just $79,000, property records show, after the bank moved to seize the 2-bedroom home from 65-year-old Florida woman Danelia Fuste in 2009, at the height of the housing and financial crash that saw 10 million Americans lose their homes.<\/p>\n

The couple bought their second home in the Sunshine State in April 2021 \u2013 a spacious 3-bed 2-bath in a gated Orlando community that boasts a pool, fitness center and walking trails \u2013 just as Aviles was kicking off her first run for office.<\/p>\n

In a June interview with The Tenant<\/a> where she said she thought \u201chousing should be decommodified,\u201d Aviles said the couple \u201cown two apartments out of state that houses family members.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aviles has been a key ally of Mamdani on his mayoral campaign trail. South Brooklyn DSA\/ Instagram<\/p>\n

But just two days before that interview was published, the Orlando condo she snapped up during the housing crash was listed for rent for $2,200, according to records on real estate website Trulia. <\/p>\n

Six days later, the price was decreased to $1,900.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis points to a clear profit motive,\u201d said a Sunset Park resident who asked to remain anonymous. \u201cShe advocates for the decommodification of housing while personally engaging in the very practice she decries. This is not merely a nuance; it is a fundamental betrayal of the principles she claims to uphold.\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple also own an apartment in this block of Sunset Park in Brooklyn. Leonardo Munoz<\/p>\n

Aviles\u00a0told The Post her mother-in-law and niece lived in the Florida homes, but that her niece moved out recently, which is why it was listed for rent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Councilmember believes that affordable housing is a human right, which is why she supports a rent freeze and holding negligent and predatory landlords accountable,\u201d a spokesperson told The Post.<\/p>\n

Aviles was elected in 2021<\/a> to replace Carlos Menchaca to represent Red Hook, Sunset Park and other parts of South Brooklyn in a run backed by the DSA, with housing justice and affordability a key tenet of her campaign to appeal to the working-class elements in her district.<\/p>\n

During her first year on the job, the two-term councilwoman used her office to host<\/a> a DSA meeting, in a move that sparked concerns she violated city law.<\/p>\n

She also touts her husband as a utility transport workers union member on her campaign page<\/a>, but Correa, 56, stopped working for Brooklyn Union Gas, where he was doing sales, two years ago. <\/p>\n

He also at one point at least aspired to embrace\u00a0full throated capitalism as a real estate and investment broker, records from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority show,\u00a0but the councilwoman\u2019s office denied either being a current source of income.<\/p>\n

Before she joined public life, Aviles was a high-ranking program director for the Scherman Foundation, a private philanthropic organization that \u201cinvests in the economic, political, and cultural transformation necessary for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to reclaim and build power.\u201d She made $215,387 in annual compensation to manage a portfolio of millions of dollars for left wing organizations like Make the Road NY.<\/p>\n

Aviles has been one of comrade Mamdani\u2019s hardest working surrogates on the campaign trail.<\/p>\n

The councilwoman spoke at his \u201cA City We Can Win<\/a>\u201d rally on June 14, 10 days before the Democratic Primary<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Aviles has taken part in many campaign events alongside Mamdani in recent months. South Brooklyn DSA\/ Instagram<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so honored to be part of a people-powered movement that\u2019s kicking a corrupt mayor out of City Hall and ushering in a new era of politics for New York\u2019s working class under our next mayor Zohran Mamdani,\u201d she shouted to a cheering crowd. <\/p>\n

\u201cBig real estate and Wall Street billionaires . . . bought City Hall so the wealthiest New Yorkers could get more, while the rest of us fight for crumbs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other lefty pols recently revealed to have substantial windfalls include \u201cSquad\u201d members Rep. Ayanna Pressley<\/a>\u00a0(D-Mass) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Financial disclosures showed Pressley with $2.5 to $8 million in assets, while Jimmy Choos-wearing Omar declared<\/a> between $6 million and $30 million, despite crying \u201cdisinformation\u201d in February when asked about online speculation she was a secret millionaire.\u00a0<\/p>\n
