CHARLOTTE \u2013\u00a0The NASCAR Hall of Fame Foundation raised money to support its scholarship program for students most in need during the second annual Putting for Purpose putt-putt tournament.<\/p>\n
The day brought together NASCAR Hall of Famers, NASCAR drivers, community leaders, industry partners and supporters Oct. 1 at Frankie\u2019s Fun Park in Huntersville for a round of putt-putt and lunch.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn just its second year, this event has grown in ways we never could have imagined, and today\u2019s fundraising total shows just how deeply our community believes in the mission of the NASCAR Hall of Fame Foundation,\u201d said Winston Kelley, executive director of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. \u201cWhat matters most is what these funds will do, changing the lives of students we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n
The foundation has provided scholarships for more than 8,000 students over the past two years. Attendees heard firsthand from students who directly benefited from the scholarship program.<\/p>\n
NASCAR Hall of Famers Kurt Busch, Ron Hornaday Jr. and Bobby Labonte as well as NASCAR Cup Series drivers Ryan Preece and AJ Allmendinger were among those on the course.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sponsors such as Team Penske, Hendrick Motorsports, Generations of Giving and others made the day possible.<\/p>\n
The Putting for Purpose program wrapped up with awards for top golfers, recognition of auction winners, and firsthand experiences of donors who fuel the foundation\u2019s work.<\/p>\n
