Manager Pat Murphy indicated that an MRI on Chourio’s leg, which required a month of rest after a strain in August, was “inconclusive.”

Chourio was expected to test the hamstring during a workout on Sunday. The Brewers were unlikely to make a pronouncement about his status before the exchange of lineups on Monday afternoon with the Chicago Cubs.

“We’re going to kind of see how he feels,” Murphy said. “He’s going to go through some testing, and if he feels anything, we’re going to shut it down.”

If Chourio, a 21-year-old who posted a .770 OPS, cannot go, the team is likely to replace him with rookie outfielder Isaac Collins.

Collins produced a .779 OPS in 2025, but faded in September and lacks the power potential of Chourio, who signed an eight-year, $82 million extension with Milwaukee before playing a game in the majors.

Murphy played coy about his pitching plans for Game 2. The team intends to use left-handed reliever Aaron Ashby as an opener. During the regular season, Milwaukee occasionally used an opener in front of right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester. With veteran Brandon Woodruff on the shelf recovering from a strained lat, Priester profiles as the team’s best choice for a Game 2 starter. Priester went 13-3 with a 3.32 ERA in 29 outings this season.

Ashby collected four outs in the Game 1 romp over the Cubs. He recorded a 2.16 ERA in 43 appearances. The Brewers will line him up to acquire the platoon advantage on Cubs left-handed hitters Michael Busch and Kyle Tucker.

“They’ve made it clear that your job is just to get outs, and then when they ask you to stop getting outs, that’s when you stop,” Ashby said. “Going into (Monday), it’ll be kind of the same situation. Just prep the same. I feel like I have a good routine to get me ready, so that’s what we’ll do.”

(Photo: Michael Reaves / Getty Images)

MILWAUKEE — A day after Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio re-aggravated his injured right hamstring, his team remained…

[41
1271,4247,1266,62,67,132,68
0":"post-280277","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mlb","8":"tag-chicago-cubs","9":"tag-milwaukee-brewers","10":"tag-mlb","11":"tag-sports","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-unitedstates","14":"tag-us
["GET
