If there’s one word to describe Caleb Wilson, confident would certainly fit the bill.<\/p>\n

The five-star freshman features a ton of confidence in himself and what he brings to the table as a basketball player. Fans of the UNC basketball program got a glimpse of what Wilson is capable of on Saturday afternoon as part of the team’s Blue-White scrimmage.<\/p>\n

There was a sequence in the scrimmage where Wilson missed a wide open dunk. While that would’ve rattled most players, Wilson stayed in the play and made things happen, converting on an and-1 to make up for the missed slam.<\/p>\n

After the scrimmage, Wilson was asked about the level of confidence he plays with when he’s on the court. His description of what goes on in his head after a mistake or a missed shot is simply legendary:<\/p>\n

“Honestly, I feel like, if I mess up, like this might seem crazy, but like if I miss a shot, I’ll feel like in my head I’ll be like, bro, the rim moved. Like that’s what goes on in my head. I feel like you can never like really have that much confidence that you need to have if you’re always worried about what happened in the past.<\/p>\n

So as soon as a shot misses, or as soon as I make a mistake, I know that I did something wrong, but in my head I’m like, crazy enough to say like, the goal moved, that’s why I missed that. And I’ll go back on film and look at it later and see what I did to make it better. But the game moves fast, so there’s no point in focusing on the last play.”<\/p>\n

Wilson’s logic is certainly different, but it gives us all a deeper perspective as to what makes him so great. Instead of dwelling on what he might’ve done wrong, he creatively blames the basket or the rim for the missed shot, allowing himself the opportunity to maintain his confidence by shaking it off quickly, understanding the importance of not dwelling on past mistakes.<\/p>\n

Caleb Wilson has only been in Chapel Hill for a few months and hasn’t even played an official game for the UNC basketball program yet. However, it’s safe to say that the Tar Heels have a star in the making, as his alpha mindset will help him thrive while playing on one of the biggest stages that college basketball has to offer.<\/p>\n
