FORT WORTH \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Behind a productive three-goal day, the No. 7 TCU women’s soccer team defeated Iowa State, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. \u00a0

\nTHE RUNDOWN<\/strong>
\nThe Horned Frogs (10-2, 4-1 Big 12) saw an offensive explosion in the first half, scoring three goals that would be all they needed to earn a victory in today’s contest. The first came from AJ Hennessey<\/a> in the eighth minute, where a ball that was batted around in the box by Kamdyn Fuller<\/a> was put in the back of the net by Hennessey to put the frogs up early.

\nNot even a minute later, Quinn Cornog<\/a> passed the ball to Hennessey who then passed to Cameron Patton<\/a> outside the box. The sophomore curled a beautiful left-footed shot that would give TCU a two-goal lead in the first 10 minutes of action.

\nThe fun would not stop there, as Kaela Martinez<\/a> found a hole in the Cyclones’ back line where she would find Seven Castain<\/a> who scored to give the Frogs a 3-0 lead. There was another opportunity to add onto the advantage in the first frame with a penalty kick, but the Cyclone keeper was able to keep the ball out of the net. Heading into half, TCU tallied nine shots and only allowed Iowa State to shoot once.

\nMuch of the second half was filled with possession-based soccer from each side. Both teams earned their fair share of offensive buildups and opportunities, but only a few true chances were to come. Combined, the two teams only put up four chances throughout the final 45 minutes. Iowa State was able to earn a goal in the 70th minute, but TCU was able to quickly weather the storm and get the job done in the final 20 minutes of action.

\n“I knew we were going to have a response from Thursday. Our kids came out in kind. The things that we asked them to do on Thursday really well they did again today. We dominated the possession like we did on Thursday and did a really good job of circulating the ball. We had to shift and work on a Sunday, which is hard. Scored some really good goals and kind of put the game away in the first half.”
