Many people probably hadn\u2019t given much thought to who owned their local TV station until the issues of freedom of speech and freedom of the press recently made headlines. Following comments<\/a> from Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr, Nexstar Media Group, which has a corporate office in Midtown, and Sinclair Broadcast Group announced on Sept. 17<\/a> that they would not air \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live\u201d on their ABC affiliates. Shortly after, ABC suspended Kimmel from the airwaves. His suspension by ABC ended on Sept. 23, and Sinclair and Nexstar ended their preemption of Kimmel\u2019s show on Sept. 26. Nexstar and Sinclair\u2019s collective portfolio includes over 20% of ABC local affiliates<\/a> nationwide, including various types of stations in each of New York\u2019s 10 media markets.
