{"id":281622,"date":"2025-10-06T11:52:20","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T11:52:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/281622\/"},"modified":"2025-10-06T11:52:20","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T11:52:20","slug":"opera-philadelphia-to-continue-wanamaker-building-performances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/281622\/","title":{"rendered":"Opera Philadelphia to continue Wanamaker building performances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>Plans to activate the <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/wanamaker-building-macys-landmark-closing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">now-vacant Macy\u2019s department store in Philadelphia\u2019s Wanamaker Building<\/a> with musical performances have been delayed due to an unexpected intervention by the city\u2019s Department of Licenses and Inspections.\n<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Opera Philadelphia is continuing to press forward with its Pipe Up! series. General Director and President Anthony Roth Costanzo could not be specific, but said concerts should begin in the Grand Court by the end of October.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, there were these cancellations of shows due to new approvals needed from L&amp;I,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve paused our performances, but we are really excited to resume. Nothing that Opera Philadelphia has planned here on out will be reduced in any way.\u201d\n  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?client=internal-element-cse&amp;cx=018124873157799521143:5jp04c3pl9s&amp;q=https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/opera-philadelphia-wanamaker-organ\/&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwj2yI2q7oqQAxX1MlkFHQYGAGAQFnoECAUQAg&amp;usg=AOvVaw1qRijCyXeCbegGq0913iKV\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pipe Up! launched Sept. 7<\/a> with the sold-out organ concert \u201cMeet Me at the Eagle,\u201d followed by a three-week series of cabaret performances, \u201cThe Layaway,\u201d produced by the Bearded Ladies Cabaret as part of the Philly Fringe Festival.\n<\/p>\n<p>The CEO of Philly Fringe, Nell Bang-Jensen, said the first weekend of the cabaret brought together an unusual audience mix.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were people at that first weekend who are diehard Bearded Ladies fans, there were people who love the Fringe Festival, there were people who love the opera,\u201d she said. \u201cThen there were people who just wanted to see the Wanamaker building. That led to this really interesting cross section of people.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>But the cabaret was forced to halt after its first two performances when L&amp;I discovered the building was overdue on several certifications, including those for sprinklers, elevators and escalators.
