{"id":2817,"date":"2025-06-21T16:32:19","date_gmt":"2025-06-21T16:32:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/2817\/"},"modified":"2025-06-21T16:32:19","modified_gmt":"2025-06-21T16:32:19","slug":"pakistan-to-nominate-genuine-peacemaker-trump-for-nobel-peace-prize-india-pakistan-tensions-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/2817\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan to nominate \u2018genuine peacemaker\u2019 Trump for Nobel Peace Prize | India-Pakistan Tensions News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">Trump has repeatedly said he averted a nuclear war, saved millions of lives \u2013 and grumbled that he got no credit for it.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan says it would recommend United States President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, an accolade that he has said he craves.<\/p>\n<p>In May, a surprise announcement by Trump of a ceasefire brought an abrupt end to a four-day conflict between nuclear-armed foes India and Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has since repeatedly said that he averted a nuclear war, saved millions of lives and grumbled that he got no credit for it.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan agrees that US diplomatic intervention ended the fighting, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/6\/18\/indias-modi-maintains-there-was-no-us-mediation-in-pakistan-ceasefire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">India says<\/a> it was a bilateral agreement between the two militaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi, which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation,\u201d Islamabad said in a statement posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Governments can nominate people for the Nobel Peace Prize. There was no immediate response from Washington, DC, or New Delhi.<\/p>\n<p>Some analysts in Pakistan said the move might persuade Trump to think again about potentially joining Israel in striking Iran\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/liveblog\/2025\/6\/21\/live-iran-says-still-open-to-diplomacy-israel-vows-continued-attacks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nuclear facilities<\/a>. Pakistan has condemned Israel\u2019s action as a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability.<\/p>\n<p>In a social media post on Friday, Trump gave a long list of conflicts he said he had resolved, including India and Pakistan and the so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2023\/9\/15\/map-which-mena-countries-have-diplomatic-ties-with-israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abraham Accords<\/a> in his first term between Israel and some Muslim-majority countries. He added: \u201cI won\u2019t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pandering to Trump\u2019s \u2018ego\u2019?<\/p>\n<p>Trump has repeatedly said that he is willing to mediate between India and Pakistan over the disputed Kashmir region, their main source of enmity. Islamabad, which has long called for international attention to Kashmir, is delighted.<\/p>\n<p>But his stance has upended US policy in South Asia, which had favoured India as a counterweight to China, and put in question previously close relations between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan\u2019s move to nominate Trump came in the same week its army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/6\/19\/trumps-pakistan-embrace-tactical-romance-or-a-new-inner-circle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">met the US president<\/a> for lunch. It was the first time that a Pakistani military leader had been invited to the White House when a civilian government was in place in Islamabad.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s planned meeting with Modi at the G7 summit in Canada last week did not take place after the US president left early, but the two later spoke by phone, in which Modi said \u201cIndia does not and will never accept mediation\u201d in its dispute with Pakistan, according to the Indian government.<\/p>\n<p>Mushahid Hussain, a former chair of the Senate Defence Committee in Pakistan\u2019s parliament, suggested nominating Trump for the peace prize was justified.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump is good for Pakistan,\u201d he said. \u201cIf this panders to Trump\u2019s ego, so be it.
