{"id":282390,"date":"2025-10-06T19:45:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T19:45:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/282390\/"},"modified":"2025-10-06T19:45:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T19:45:21","slug":"mark-sanchezs-former-jets-teammate-in-shock-over-stabbing-arrest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/282390\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark Sanchez&#8217;s former Jets teammate in shock over stabbing, arrest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Jets center Nick Mangold was in his fourth season when Mark Sanchez was the rookie quarterback who led head coach Rex Ryan to the 2009 AFC Championship game, a 30-17 loss to the Colts in Indianapolis, the scene of the alleged crime this past Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve known Mark since 2009, that\u2019s 16 years, and he doesn\u2019t have an aggressive bone in his body,\u201d Mangold told the Post. \u201cFor something of this to happen, something obviously wasn\u2019t right that night, and I hope they get to the bottom of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mangold, who played with Sanchez through the 2012 season, texted Sanchez when he learned his former teammate had been stabbed but did not hear back.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Sanchez and Nick Mangold after a 2010 Jets-Steelers game. AP<\/p>\n<p>Sanchez, 38, was stabbed in the chest outside of a bar during an altercation with a 69-year-old grease truck driver at 12:30 AM on Saturday. <\/p>\n<p>Sanchez, who was in Indianapolis to call the Colts-Raiders game for Fox, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/06\/sports\/ex-jets-qb-mark-sanchez-faces-more-serious-charges-over-fight-where-he-was-stabbed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was arrested and charged<\/a> while hospitalized on Saturday as authorities believe he was the aggressor.<\/p>\n<p>\tTimeline of the Mark Sanchez stabbing and arrest<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday Night<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mark Sanchez, 38, is in Indianapolis to serve as a Fox Sports analyst for the Raiders-Colts game on Sunday. He\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/05\/sports\/ex-jets-qb-mark-sanchez-acted-erratically-assaulted-grease-truck-driver-before-being-stabbed-in-indianapolis-cops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">observed acting \u201cerratically,\u201d<\/a> doing \u201cwind sprints\u201d in the alley behind Loughmiller\u2019s Pub and Eatery in the downtown.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Just after midnight<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A grease truck driver picking up cooking oil from a nearby hotel parks his truck in the loading dock, blocking the alley where Sanchez is doing sprints.<\/li>\n<li>Sanchez approaches the driver to try to get him to move and eventually gets into an altercation where he body-slams him toward the wall and then to the ground.<\/li>\n<li>The driver sprayed Sanchez with mace or pepper spray, but the former NFL quarterback continues attacking him.<\/li>\n<li>The driver pulls a knife and stabs Sanchez two or three times in the chest, believing, \u201cThis guy is trying to kill me.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Sanchez <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/06\/sports\/bloody-mark-sanchez-seen-stumbling-down-indianapolis-sidewalk-after-being-stabbed-in-fight-with-grease-truck-driver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">turns around and heads up the alley<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>12:30 a.m.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/04\/sports\/ex-jets-qb-mark-sanchezs-altercation-outside-indianapolis-pub-drew-massive-911-response-audio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">respond to a report of a person shot.<\/a> They locate Sanchez in Loughmiller\u2019s Pub.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s later reported that Sanchez is uncooperative with responding officers. He tells the detective he can only remember \u201cgrabbing for a window\u201d and nothing else about the incident.<\/li>\n<li>Sanchez is rushed to the hospital in critical condition.<\/li>\n<li>The<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/05\/sports\/truck-driver-allegedly-bashed-by-mark-sanchez-pictured-in-hospital-with-bloody-injuries-after-stabbing-ex-jets-qb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> driver also suffered \u201csignificant injuries,\u201d<\/a> including lacerations to his cheek and jaw, with a cut that allegedly went through his cheek and hit his tongue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Saturday<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sanchez undergoes surgery for stab wounds to the chest, and is stable.<\/li>\n<li>He is<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/04\/sports\/ex-jets-qb-mark-sanchez-arrested-at-hospital-following-stabbing-incident-at-indianapolis-pub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> arrested at the hospital<\/a> and charged with misdemeanor counts of battery resulting in injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sunday<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sanchez is <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/05\/sports\/ex-jets-star-mark-sanchez-released-from-hospital-taken-directly-to-jail-after-alleged-drunken-assault-on-elderly-truck-driver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discharged from the hospital<\/a> Sunday morning and transferred directly to central booking at Marion County Jail, where he reportedly posts his $300 cash bond.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Monday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An unidentified truck driver involved in the altercation with former quarterback Mark Sanchez. FOX59<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s completely out of character,\u201d Mangold said. \u201cThe Mark I know wouldn\u2019t do this. They obviously have video footage of him doing it, but it seems so out of character.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sanchez has since been released from the hospital and was taken directly to jail.<\/p>\n<p>The charges against Sanchez were upgraded to a Level 5 felony battery of causing serious injury, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez (6) takes the snap from center Nick Mangold (74) during training camp in 2011. AP<\/p>\n<p>According to police reports, the former QB allegedly approached the truck driver, who was parked in an alley to collect cooking oil from a nearby hotel, smelling of \u201calcohol\u201d and slurring his speech, according to an affidavit. <\/p>\n<p>Sanchez purportedly slammed the driver into a wall and throw him to the ground before the 69-year-old stabbed him in self-defense.<\/p>\n<p>Video grab of Mark Sanchez with blood on his shirt walking down a street.
