Jimmy Kimmel was suspended<\/a> from his late-night talk show for six days by Disney-owned ABC. After his return, Trump called for NBC to fire Jimmy Fallon.<\/p>\nThe Democratic nominee, who ran for president in 2024, spoke at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles with \u201cI\u2019ve Had It\u201d podcast hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan. The sold-out event was part of the promotional tour for her campaign memoir \u201c107 Days,\u201d published on Sept. 23.<\/p>\n
In the book, Harris argues it was \u201creckless\u201d for President Joe Biden to run again and writes that \u201che got tired.\u201d She also contends she lost because she didn\u2019t have enough time.<\/p>\n
Harris devoted much of her talk to disinformation and misinformation from the current administration, which she called the most serious threat to democracy. She shared experiences from her recent trip to Washington, D.C., her first since the inauguration.<\/p>\n
\u201cJournalists are so scared right now,\u201d Harris said. \u201cThey\u2019re scared they will be fired, or they will be the subject of one of Trump\u2019s tweets and that they and their families\u2019 lives will be at risk. They said to me that this administration is trying to keep the truth from the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harris also raised concerns about cuts to science, research and education. She cited the administration\u2019s plans to scrap major satellite missions used for climate monitoring and predicting extreme weather. Harris noted the impact such cuts could have on communities across the country, including in California, which faces frequent wildfires.<\/p>\n
The conversation around the Democratic Party\u2019s future she described as \u201cunproductive,\u201d urging more discipline\u2013 though she didn\u2019t provide any clues about her own future, whether in politics or not<\/p>\n
\u201cEnough with the savior complex \u2013 there\u2019s not going to be a Messiah coming to save us,\u201d Harris stated. \u201cWe\u2019ve got a lot of stars in the party.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harris did not hold back when describing Trump, who she said is \u201cgoing over his political enemies.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is incompetent, unhinged and juvenile. He has a fragile ego and he is the president of the United States. This is a very bad combination,\u201d she said. \u201cLet\u2019s not ever normalize what\u2019s happening right now and get used to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Among the audience \u2014 a majority of them women \u2014 two words came up repeatedly: hope and inspiration.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m hoping that I will get a sense of hope for the future from this,\u201d said attendee Karen Marx before the show. \u201cWe are living in very difficult times, and we all need a little bit of hope to keep going,\u201d Marx said, wearing a blue \u201cKarens for Kamala\u201d t-shirt alongside her teacher colleague Karen Kafka.<\/p>\n
Rebecca John and Paige Samlant said Harris has been such an inspiration for them as Black female attorneys.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to see her in office again,\u201d John said. \u201cIn many ways, she embodies what a leader is, and a kind of leader we haven\u2019t seen before.\u201d<\/p>\n
High school students Leo Wilson, Skye Hoffman and Gwen Karaba described Harris as simply \u201cbrat,\u201d referencing a tweet by singer Charli XCX who called Harris \u201cbrat\u201d in the summer of 2024. Charlie XCX has an album by the same name. All three wore custom-made shirts reading \u201cincoming Discord call from Kamala Harris.\u201d Karaba also had a brat necklace. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m definitely hoping that she has some advice for us to survive the next four years,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cI\u2019m excited to be in the same room as her.\u201d<\/p>\n
Briana Ford, a social media professional, said she appreciated Harris\u2019 encouragement and her calls to fight back.<\/p>\n
\u201cHonestly, I would not fault her if she just disappeared and said she\u2019s done her due diligence,\u201d Ford said.<\/p>\n
Chaka Cumberbatch, a first-generation daughter of immigrants, said hearing Harris\u2019 words felt especially meaningful.<\/p>\n
