A Kent town could be in line for a new fitness facility under recently revealed plans.<\/p>\n
An application has been sent to Ashford Borough Council (ABC) to turn a Tenterden storage facility into a \u201csmall-scale wellness and fitness studio\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Little Barn Studio hopes to convert the building on the Tenterden Station Estate on Station Road.<\/p>\n
Saying the facility \u201cwill provide a positive addition\u201d to the town, the company describes itself as \u201ca local business committed to promoting health, movement, and community connection\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe studio offers a broad mix of activities, including yoga, dance, and functional fitness tailored to different ability levels,\u201d the planning application explains.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is designed to be welcoming and inclusive, providing options for men and women alike – from strength and conditioning sessions for people who want to improve fitness and mobility, to low-impact classes for older adults, pregnant women, and those with reduced mobility.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeyond physical training, the space also supports overall wellbeing with wellness workshops, mental health and support groups, and community first aid training.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aim is to create a calm, accessible environment that enhances both body and mind, while also serving as a flexible venue for a variety of small classes, group sessions, and community activities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Located less than 400m from Tenterden\u2019s High Street, the industrial estate also hosts the Old Dairy Taproom, and buildings used by the Kent & East Sussex Railway.<\/p>\n
Little Barn stresses that the business is locally owned, with all senior staff living within walking distance, and that the new studio would create six to ten new jobs.<\/p>\n
It proposes that the studio would be open from 6.45am-8.30pm Monday-Friday, from 8am-2pm on Saturdays, and 10am-1pm on Sundays.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur class timetables will be prepared with due consideration for neighbouring businesses to ensure harmonious operation,\u201d the application adds.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Little Barn Studio is intended as a local hub for healthier lifestyles, social connection, and community engagement \u2014 not just a gym,\u201d they argue.<\/p>\n
The industrial estate itself technically sits within the High Weald National Landscape (formerly designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or AONB).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe environment will be supportive, inclusive, and accessible,\u201d the application adds.<\/p>\n
\u201cRepurposing an underused industrial unit represents a sustainable approach in line with national and local planning objectives, contributing to the local economy and supporting tourism.\u201d<\/p>\n
They also cite a \u201cgrowing demand\u201d for fitness facilities in the town.<\/p>\n
