One of Walmart’s stores in Texas has refused to accept cash from one particularly lucrative place\u2013 and the internet loudly supports its decision.<\/p>\n

Allegedly displayed in a Texas Walmart, a sign informed customers that they would no longer be accepting cash that had been pulled out of someone’s bra.<\/p>\n

A photo of the sign was posted in the r\/walmart<\/a> subreddit, and has garnered a large amount of foot traffic, with users jumping to the comment section to profess their agreement.<\/p>\n

Reddit Post Goes Viral<\/p>\n

Captioned ‘Walmart in texas lol’ with a photo of the sign pictured below, the post has received over 8000 upvotes and around 150 comments.<\/p>\n

The sign outlined that the store would ‘no longer be accepting money carried in your bra’ due to ‘the increase in temperatures.’<\/p>\n

Reddit users banned together to flood the comments section with support for Walmart’s decision.<\/p>\n

Comments included, ‘I work in a grocery store and want to hang up this sign so badly,’ ‘Should be bra, socks, underwear and anywhere else that’s not a purse or wallet,’ and ‘Yeah, I get that boobs are a good way to store stuff, but no one wants to touch anything that comes from them.’<\/p>\n

Other users commented on similar signs they’d seen in other stores.<\/p>\n

‘I saw a sign in Georgia that said “No Sock or Tiddy Money”!’ One user posted. Another replied, ‘Same for Missouri. My local Dollar store has it on the counter.’<\/p>\n

US Businesses Can Refuse To Accept Cash By Law<\/p>\n

There is no law outright banning businesses from refusing to accept cash in the United States.<\/p>\n

According to the Federal Reserve,<\/a> ‘Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether to accept cash unless there is a state law that says otherwise.’<\/p>\n

There are no laws in the state of Texas or any Texas city which force businesses to accept cash.<\/p>\n

Hold on\u2013 Is This Real?<\/p>\n

Some of the comments on the r\/walmart post were quick to point out that the sign may not be recent\u2013 or even real.<\/p>\n

‘That pic’s older than me,’ one user said, receiving 50 upvotes on their comment. Another replied, ‘And it was still fake back then lol.’<\/p>\n

‘Looks like an old dollar general post,’ someone commented.<\/p>\n

The validity of the post has yet to be confirmed. Walmart has yet to comment on whether the sign belongs to one of their stores.<\/p>\n

Cashiers Being Given ‘Gross’ Money An Ongoing Issue<\/p>\n

Regardless of validity, the post has brought attention to the internet’s long term disgust with shoppers paying with ‘gross’ money.<\/p>\n

A reddit post<\/a> from five years ago in the subreddit r\/AmITheAsshole also complained of receiving ‘bra money.’<\/p>\n

They titled their post, ‘WIBTA [would I be the asshole] if I refused to take money that was held in someone’s bra?’<\/p>\n

The user explained that they would receive cash or credit cards from a customers bra at least once a week at the restaurant they worked at.<\/p>\n

‘WIBTA in the eyes of my managers if I refused to touch that? I just fear that they will have no other form of payment and then I won’t know what to do,’ they asked the subreddit.<\/p>\n

The answer provided by 178 comments was a resounding ‘no.’<\/p>\n

‘NAH – The real assholes are the people who don’t make women’s clothing to have reasonable pockets,’ read the top comment, with 286 upvotes.<\/p>\n

‘NTA [not the asshole]: simply put, it’s an area that gets sweaty. Not hygienic, and where I’m from, a lot of shops refuse to accept bra\/sock money during the summer when people don’t have the pockets in clothes they normally wear,’ another user shared.<\/p>\n

‘NTA as a teen I worked at walmart. I would refuse to accept any money from a bra or sock. Call the manager I dont care. In fact they would refuse too,’ someone commented.<\/p>\n

While the origin of the sign in the photo posted to r\/walmart remains up for speculation, it’s clear that the internet is in agreement that cashiers should not have to accept money taken out of bras.<\/p>\n
