Taylor Swift<\/a> returned to the late-night circuit on Monday for the first time since \u201cMidnights,\u201d appearing on \u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/a>\u201d to discuss her new album<\/a>, \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl.\u201d The record, her twelfth studio release and a collaboration with \u201cRed,\u201d \u201c1989\u201d and \u201cReputation\u201d producers Max Martin and Shellback,\u201d has received . . .\u00a0mixed<\/a> reviews<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe spice level on this album is high,\u201d Swift said, as Fallon confirmed, \u201cIt\u2019s the spiciest yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift described \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d as a record about show business and living a public life. The title track, featuring Sabrina Carpenter<\/a>, explores what she called \u201cthe playful, humorous side of show business.\u201d \u201cAs entertainers, one of our main jobs is to be a mirror for people,\u201d she told Fallon. \u201cThe way you feel about our art has a lot to do with the life experience you\u2019re having at this point in time.\u201d That, she explained, is why she\u2019s glad to have such a deep catalog \u2014 if one album doesn\u2019t resonate now, it might later, when you\u2019re living through something else. Maybe so!<\/p>\n

Swift also offered context for select tracks. \u201cOpalite,\u201d a reflection on self-determination, captures \u201cexactly how I feel right now,\u201d she said. \u201cLife isn\u2019t always going to give you what you want. You have to pick your own happiness. You have to choose it.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cFather Figure\u201d was inspired by a scene<\/a> from \u201cSuccession,\u201d while \u201cWood\u201d \u2014 a track about her fianc\u00e9, Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> tight end Travis Kelce<\/a>\u2019s uh, \u201cmagic wand\u201d \u2014 started out in a \u201cvery innocent place.\u201d She joked, \u201cI don\u2019t know what happened, man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, Swift addressed a rumor<\/a> about turning down the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show over a dispute over the footage ownership. \u201cNo,\u201d she told Fallon when he asked her about it, adding that Jay-Z and his team have always been \u201cgood to her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in love with a guy who plays that sport on that field,\u201d Swift said. \u201cThis has nothing to do with Travis \u2014 he\u2019d love for me to do it.\u201d But football is \u201cviolent chess. That is gladiators without swords. That is dangerous. The whole season, I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field.\u201d (Halftime acts are announced early in the season, so this doesn\u2019t necessarily mean Kelce or the Chiefs will be playing in the game.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just vibing,\u201d she added. \u201cI\u2019m just riding this wave.\u201d<\/p>\n
