Wylde<\/b> as the president and CEO of the <b><a href=\"https:\/\/commercialobserver.com\/company\/partnership-for-new-york-city\/\" title=\"Partnership for New York City\" class=\"company-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Partnership for New York City<\/a><\/b>, according to an announcement from the business booster group.<\/p>\n<p>Fulop was elected mayor of Jersey City in 2013, and was re-elected twice. His first re-election found him winning 78 percent of the vote, the largest margin of victory in the city since 1949. It is unclear exactly when his job with the Partnership will begin.<\/p>\n<p>The Partnership conducted an extensive search to find Wylde\u2019s replacement, considering over 30 candidates. <b><a href=\"https:\/\/commercialobserver.com\/company\/pfizer\/\" title=\"Pfizer\" class=\"company-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pfizer<\/a><\/b> CEO <b>Albert Bourla<\/b> and <b><a href=\"https:\/\/commercialobserver.com\/company\/tishman-speyer\/\" title=\"Tishman Speyer\" class=\"company-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tishman Speyer<\/a><\/b> CEO <b>Rob Speyer<\/b>, co-chairs of the Partnership\u2019s Board of Trustees, cited Fulop\u2019s \u201cexpertise and leadership\u201d in his selection.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fulop called his new position a \u201ctremendous honor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Partnership\u2019s member organizations are the engines behind New York\u2019s economy, employing more than 1 million people, and are uniquely positioned to build a stronger, more prosperous city,\u201d Fulop said in the release. \u201cI am humbled to take the reins from Kathy Wylde, who built the organization into the influential force it is today, and I look forward to joining the Partnership to help tackle the complex challenges that New York City faces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The release said that Fulop \u201ctransformed the city\u2019s economic, social and cultural landscape,\u201d noting that he added more than $1.4 billion to Jersey City\u2019s tax rolls. The Partnership cited Fulop accomplishments, including \u201csupporting the construction of more than 10,000 residential units and approving more than 18,000 additional units for future construction,\u201d advocating for innovative policies and tax abatements to support development in underinvested neighborhoods, and overseeing the launch of <b>Citi Bike<\/b> in\u00a0the city, to name just a few.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wylde was one of the Partnership\u2019s first employees, starting there in 1982. She became the organization\u2019s president and CEO in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>She was a strong advocate for business interests, opposing tax increases on the wealthy, and appealing to <b><a href=\"https:\/\/commercialobserver.com\/company\/amazon\/\" title=\"Amazon\" class=\"company-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amazon<\/a><\/b> to reconsider after the company decided not to build its second headquarters in Queens.<\/p>\n<p>Wylde became an adviser to many of the most powerful people and business concerns in the city. She designed the blueprint for stabilizing Lower Manhattan after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, guided City Hall through Mayor <b>Eric Adams<\/b>\u2019s federal indictment, and also served as a strong advocate for congestion pricing, as <a href=\"https:\/\/commercialobserver.com\/2025\/05\/kathryn-wylde-retire-partnership-for-nyc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commercial Observer previously reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wylde has discussed the importance of having a tough successor who understands the importance of the business community to the city\u2019s prosperity, and said she believes that Fulop is the right person to help move the city forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSteve Fulop understands the importance of maintaining strong relationships between business, labor, government and the nonprofit sectors, which has been central to the Partnership\u2019s mission since it was founded by David Rockefeller,\u201d Wylde said in the release. \u201cI look forward to working with him through what I am confident will be a successful transition.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Larry Getlen can be reached at <a href=\"https:\/\/commercialobserver.com\/2025\/10\/jersey-city-mayor-steven-fulop-lead-partnership-new-york-city\/mailto:lgetlen@commercialobserver.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lgetlen@commercialobserver.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Steven Fulop, the outgoing mayor of Jersey City, N.J., will succeed longtime head Kathryn S.
