President Donald Trump became the latest conservative to criticize the selection of this year\u2019s Super Bowl halftime performer, Puerto Rican megastar Bad Bunny, telling Newsmax\u2019s Greg Kelly that the choice was \u201cabsolutely ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know who he is. I don\u2019t know why they\u2019re doing it \u2014 it\u2019s, like, crazy,\u201d Trump said in the interview on Monday night. \u201cThey blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it\u2019s absolutely ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Super Bowl halftime performers are selected by the NFL in collaboration with Apple Music and Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z.<\/p>\n

Bad Bunny, who performs primarily in Spanish, was announced as this year\u2019s Super Bowl halftime performer in late September<\/a>. A three-time Grammy Award winner who released his latest album, \u201cDeb\u00ed Tirar M\u00e1s Fotos,\u201d in January, he will be the first Latin-American male to headline the halftime show. He also hosted the season premiere of \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the singer, songwriter and producer used his platform to deride Trump for his immigration policies<\/a>. He has said that he did not include any stops in the continental United States on his latest tour out of concern that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement would raid the concert venues.<\/p>\n

Three days after Bad Bunny was announced as the halftime performer for the Feb. 8 game in Santa Clara, Calif., a Trump administration official said ICE agents would be at the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is nowhere that you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl, and nowhere else,\u201d Corey Lewandowski, chief adviser to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, said during an appearance on \u201cThe Benny Show<\/a>,\u201d hosted by the conservative podcaster Benny Johnson. \u201cWe will find you. We will apprehend you. We will put you in a detention facility, and we will deport you.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an appearance on the same show on Friday, Noem echoed Lewandowski\u2019s comments, and when Johnson suggested Bad Bunny\u2019s selection could be a message from the NFL to the Trump administration, she said, \u201cThey suck, and we\u2019ll win, and God will bless us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The NFL did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Bad Bunny\u2019s selection was happily greeted by Zaileen Janmohamed, the president and CEO of the Bay Area Host Committee.<\/p>\n
