Gov. Ron DeSantis<\/strong><\/a> says only law and order can make Chicago great again. And he believes Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker<\/strong><\/a> and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson<\/strong> are standing in the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see what\u2019s going on in Chicago with the posturing of this Governor and this Mayor,\u201d the Governor<\/a><\/strong> said at the Bay County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/a><\/strong> in Panama City<\/a><\/strong>, referring to local resistance to federal troops entering the city.<\/p>\n

President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> has sent National Guard<\/a><\/strong> troops into Chicago, a move condemned by both Democratic elected leaders.<\/p>\n

Pritzker has said the deployment represents an \u201cauthoritarian march.\u201d Johnson, who signed an executive order ordering resistance to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said it represents a \u201cwar on Chicago<\/a><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeSantis, who believes the\u00a0Joe Biden\u00a0<\/strong>administration flouted immigration statutes and frustrated Florida\u2019s zeal to combat the problem of illegal immigration, sees it differently.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow you have the federal government that\u2019s actually enforcing what the laws say,\u201d DeSantis said, in contrast to Democrats working to \u201csabotage enforcement\u201d and \u201cputting a target on the back of these officers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re going to tell people to not do that, to not step up and help, especially when people\u2019s lives are at risk, all because of political agenda and ideology?\u201d<\/p>\n

DeSantis then explained that in-migration from the city to Florida shows Chicago \u201chas got a lot of problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time they do something stupid there, more people move here. Honestly, I want them to fix Chicago. Like, we have enough people that have come,\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen this Mayor got elected, I saw a flood of new people go to Naples and Southwest Florida, and they talk about \u2026 what the city used to be. Because it used to be one of the great cities anywhere. And what\u2019s happened now and there\u2019s a lot of reasons, but I\u2019d say the most significant one was just a decline of public safety and the decline of supporting law enforcement, holding criminals accountable.\u201d.<\/p>\n

Before wrapping his remarks, DeSantis again cited \u201cserious problems in Chicago with illegal immigration,\u201d including \u201cmassive gangs, massive drug trafficking, a lot of bad stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chicago critiques and monument defenses have been a big part of DeSantis\u2019 rhetorical arsenal in recent years.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have a city going down the tubes and they elect somebody (Johnson) that\u2019s going to put it down the tubes even faster. I can tell you this, Naples property values are going to be going up in the state of Florida,\u201d the Florida Governor told the New Hampshire Republican Party in 2023, when he was beginning his campaign for President.<\/p>\n

He made similar points in speaking to\u00a0businessmen in Japan<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cChicago used to be one of the greatest cities in America. It\u2019s had huge problems and there\u2019s really a major need to go a different direction, and they elect someone that\u2019s going to keep going in the same bad direction at an accelerated pace,\u201d DeSantis lamented.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Gov.
