Who says Senate Estimates is boring?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Department of Home Affairs Secretary <b>Stephanie Foster<\/b> is being quizzed about the federal integrity watchdog&#8217;s first corruption finding against Foster&#8217;s former chief of staff, who is yet unnamed in the public domain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The NACC&#8217;s Operation Kingscliff found the official had engaged in corrupt conduct and abused her office when she gave her sister and her sister&#8217;s fianc\u00e9 an improper benefit, and by misusing official information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Foster has received questions on this issue both from Liberal Senator <b>James Paterson<\/b> and Greens Senator <b>David Shoebridge<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Shoebridge wants to know why the public official hasn&#8217;t been named publicly to ensure the individual doesn&#8217;t accidentally consult for the Commonwealth in the future.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"Blockquote_blockquote__YVWQm ContentAlignment_marginBottom__4H_6E ContentAlignment_overflowAuto__c1_IL\" data-component=\"Blockquote\">\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;To make a ruling as to anonymity\u2026 were you consulted in any way by the NACC commissioner not to publish the name of your corrupt former chief of staff?&#8221; Shoebridge asks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;From memory, we were given a copy of the report immediately before it was published but I was not consulted on his decision not to name the person. Paterson is trying to make the point that Albanese should never have made the changes and that national security was compromised as a result.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Is that fair? This has been a partnership between leaders, between nations and most importantly between peoples,&#8221; Albanese says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>1h agoTue 7 Oct 2025 at 11:48pm<\/p>\n<p>When Optus emailed the wrong address, why didn&#8217;t anybody see it?<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/lcimg-3568dfbd-0702-4f4e-bca2-eec10266741b.png\" alt=\"Tom Crowley profile image\" class=\"Avatar_avatarImage__f1Jjg\" style=\"display:none\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">That&#8217;s the question that has consumed senators for about half an hour now, with both the Greens and the Liberals incredulous that Deputy Secretary <b>James Chisholm<\/b>\u00a0and his team missed two emails from Optus about their outage, for over a day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">We learn that it was sent to an address that had been used for all sorts of different notifications and was too crowded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But a few months ago (Chisholm says &#8220;many&#8221; months but <b>Sarah Henderson<\/b>\u00a0says she understands it wasn&#8217;t very long ago), they set up a new address just for serious telco outages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The department officials say Optus was using the new address for other notifications and it&#8217;s not clear why they didn&#8217;t use it for this one.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They are also quick to emphasise the email did not mention that 600 calls had not been connected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But why didn&#8217;t they have an auto-forward switched on, or some other redundancy arrangements for something they have just changed?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The redundancy arrangements here are Optus complying with its obligations,&#8221; Chisholm retorts.
