Mesa Police Detective Sabrina Amyx said officers were tracking a white Mercedes sedan linked to a shooting earlier that day \u2014 Leasy\u2019s car matched the description.<\/p>\n
Police followed Leasy to the airport and held him at gunpoint as he exited his vehicle. He and his daughter were detained, and his car was searched before they were released.<\/p>\n
The suspect Mesa Police were looking for was a white male. Leasy is Black.<\/p>\n
No apologies for former Arizona Cardinal, attorney says<\/p>\n
Five months later, Leasy\u2019s attorney Benjamin Taylor told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the former athlete hasn\u2019t received any apologies.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now, the ball is in the City of Mesa and City of Phoenix\u2019s court to make this right,\u201d Taylor said. \u201cWe haven\u2019t received one apology. They haven\u2019t reached out to us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Leasy hopes the notice will bring accountability to policing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere has to be some accountability about what happened and why,\u201d he said. \u201cBecause the larger argument is that these officers, despite \u2014 or because of \u2014 their training, carried this out.\u201d<\/p>\n
