Founder Reportedly Disowns Son After Raft Of Legal Trouble"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1750589843_18_placeholder.png\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Placeholder\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\n      The streets of Irvine, California, pictured in 2023\n    <\/p>\n<p>Billionaire real estate developer and The Irvine Co. founder Donald Bren has reportedly cut ties with one of his sons, David Bren, following the younger Bren&#8217;s legal trouble.<\/p>\n<p>David Bren faced lawsuits over a $14,500-per-month membership to a high-end car subscription service that supposedly would have provided access to Ferraris, Bugattis and Porsches.<\/p>\n<p>Investors allege in a lawsuit that the car club\u00a0pitch\u00a0was a sham to fund the younger Bren&#8217;s\u00a0lifestyle,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-10-06\/david-bren-beverly-hills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Los Angeles Times reported<\/a>\u00a0Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not have a personal or business relationship with this individual,\u201d Paul Hernandez, a spokesperson for both the elder\u00a0Bren and The Irvine Co., told the LA\u00a0Times.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Donald Bren is the wealthiest real estate developer in the country, with a fortune of roughly $17.4B, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/features\/2025-irvine-california-housing-donald-bren\/#:~:text=Properties%20Owned%20by%20Irvine%20Co,man%20homeowners%20association%20(HOA).\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg reported in March<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>David Bren has been described as \u201cestranged\u201d from his father. In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/archives\/la-xpm-2010-aug-27-la-me-bren-20100827-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010, Donald Bren won a lawsuit<\/a> for retroactive child support for David and his sister Christie Bren.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, an attorney for Donald Bren said the executive would pay for his adult children&#8217;s educations until age 25 and that he had already provided them $9M in support.<\/p>\n<p>A succession plan for leading The Irvine Co. after Donald Bren remains a secret, with the 91-year-old developer of the city of Irvine, California, maintaining an iron grip on the company&#8217;s work, Bloomberg reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Donald Bren&#8217;s wife, Brigitte, could remain involved with the company, according to Bloomberg, and sons Hunter and Cary have links to the business. However, it is unclear if they or any of\u00a0the patriarch&#8217;s other children are part of succession plans.<\/p>\n<p>The exclusive car club, called The Bunker, was supposed to move into a property in Beverly Hills called\u00a0Mr. C\u2019s Beverly Hills Hotel. An executive summary for the venture said The Bunker&#8217;s ownership was in the process of a $90M acquisition of the property.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Bunker does not exist,\u201d according to one lawsuit. \u201cThere is no ultra-high end automotive club. There are no members. The business is a mirage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David Bren is a defendant in\u00a0several state and federal lawsuits\u00a0that allege he used funds from his Bunker venture to pay for personal expenses. He is also a defendant in lawsuits that claim he defaulted on lease agreements for cars, homes and office space in Los Angeles, the LA Times reported.
