The Dallas Zoo is announcing the arrival of a 5-foot-8-inch-tall, 156-pound baby.<\/p>\n
A healthy male reticulated giraffe calf was born to mother Katie and father Tebago on September 24.<\/p>\n
The zoo also shared a video that showed the baby giraffe was quick to his feet, standing within an hour and even testing out his new, albeit wobbly, legs after nursing.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWelcoming a new calf is always a joyful moment for our Zoo family and our community,\u201d said Tina Cloutier Barbour, the Dallas Zoo’s Associate VP of Animal Care and Welfare. \u201cEvery birth helps contribute to the long-term conservation of this incredible species.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zoo officials say mom and calf are doing well, with Katie being an attentive and nurturing mother – after all, this is not Katie’s first calf.<\/p>\n
The zoo also posted a video of the baby giraffe getting some nuzzles from his ‘aunt’ Chrystal for the first time and showing how much more sure he is of his legs.<\/p>\n
\nThe Dallas Zoo will share updates on social media about the calf’s name and when you can expect to see him at the Giants of the Savanna habitat with the rest of the herd.<\/p>\n
