A man has died in a daylight shooting in Sydney’s north-west in what police have described as a “brazen” targeted attack.<\/p>\n
At about 6pm on Wednesday, emergency services were called to Annaluke Street in Riverstone after reports of a shooting.<\/p>\n
Police found a man suffering gunshot wounds, and he was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, but he died at the scene.<\/p>\n
A short time later, emergency services were called to nearby Riverstone Road following reports of a car fire.<\/p>\n
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle, a red Audi, was destroyed.<\/p>\n
Police were then advised of a second vehicle alight in Matthias Street in Riverstone, with that white van also destroyed by the fire.<\/p>\n

Riverstone Police Area Commander Superintendent Jason Joyce said three crime scenes had since been established, with officers working to determine whether they were related incidents.<\/p>\n
Witnesses at the scene told officers the gunman appeared to have fired a weapon from a vehicle.<\/p>\n
“There is some indication that they were driving around that area earlier in the evening,” Superintendent Joyce said of the white van in question.<\/p>\n
“At this stage, we’re being advised that one person was in the vehicle that was seen speeding from the scene. We’re unaware whether there was anyone else, but that forms part of our inquiries.”<\/p>\n

Superintendent Joyce said identification was still underway for the male victim, though he was believed to be in his mid 30s.<\/p>\n
“We believe he may have been out for a walk, but we are still yet to confirm that \u2026 we do believe he may [have been] living in the area,” he said on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
“We do believe it was a targeted attack.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When asked if the shooting had potential links to organised crime, Superintendent Joyce said investigators were “exploring all options”.<\/p>\n
“My heart goes out to the family of this victim and certainly any of the people that witnessed it \u2014 it would have been a horrific thing to witness.<\/p>\n
“Police are putting a lot of resources into what is currently occurring,” he said, pointing to the efforts of Taskforce Falcon.<\/p>\n
The taskforce was formed earlier this year to combat the escalating underworld conflict across Sydney.<\/p>\n
