PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A major microelectronics conference historically held in Silicon Valley is being hosted in the Valley of the Sun this year, showing how Arizona continues to grow in the semiconductor industry. <\/p>\n
After being held in San Francisco for decades, SEMICON West, a well-known microelectronics conference, is being held at the Phoenix Convention Center from Tuesday through Thursday. <\/p>\n
Phoenix will now play host to the event on a rotating basis, with it scheduled to return to the Valley of the Sun in 2027 and 2029. <\/p>\n
The conference is expected to attract more than 35,000 attendees, making it the most attended SEMICON West to date, according to the City of Phoenix. It is expected to generate millions of dollars in tourism revenue for the local economy.<\/p>\n
SEMICON West is an opportunity for the City of Phoenix to deepen ties with international trade partners in Asia and Europe, according to Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis achievement highlights our City\u2019s strength as a center of innovation, our world-class workforce, and our role in advancing technology that impacts the entire globe,\u201d Gallego said in a statement. \u201cSEMICON will energize our economy, support local businesses, and cement Phoenix\u2019s place as America\u2019s semiconductor capital.\u201d<\/p>\n
The City of Phoenix says SEMICON West helps highlight Foreign-Trade Zone No. 75<\/a>, which is an area administered by the City of Phoenix that allows companies to save money on duties on imported goods and encourages them to utilize the area for their business. <\/p>\n Arizona is a leader in semiconductor advancement since Motorola established its facility in Greater Phoenix in 1949.
