<\/p>\nThe Philadelphia Museum of Art has a new name — one you\u2019ve probably used for years.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, October 8, the historic museum “reintroduced itself” as the Philadelphia Art Museum. <\/p>\n
Now, the new name might not come as a shock to many, as most Philadelphians have always referred to it as the “Philadelphia Art Museum” or simply the “Art Museum.”<\/p>\n
With the new name change, the museum has also unveiled a whole rebrand with a new logo, new signage, new merchandise, and a website overhaul that emphasizes making art accessible, relevant, and connected to Philadelphians. <\/p>\n
The new logo, which can be seen hanging on the east terrace of the museum, features a revived and redrawn griffin. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Philadelphia Art Museum has long been the cultural heart of the city, and it\u2019s our duty to maintain that role,\u201d said Sasha Suda, George D. Widener Director and CEO of the Philadelphia Art Museum. \u201cOur focus and vision are unabashedly Philadelphian; we\u2019re opening our doors to become more collaborative and future-focused for all.\u201d<\/p>\n
Officials stated that following the rebrand, visitors can expect more hands-on learning opportunities for all ages, increased collaborations with regional and global creative partners, and a transformation of the campus.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project is the result of more than a year of research, collaboration, creative development and iteration,\u201d Ryan Moore, Executive Creative Director and Partner at Gretel, said. \u201cOur main objective was to \u2018come down the steps\u2019 by putting the museum in dialogue with its community, which is and always has been the city itself. This new identity reflects the future of the institution: more engaging, more dynamic, and more inviting to new audiences.\u201d<\/p>\n
